Jonathan Toews is wayyyy better than Wheeler. No doubt about it.

Kessel is the top guy. He could still be in high school right now as he just turned 18 a few months ago. He is the top scoring freshman in college hockey despite being the 2nd youngest player in the college game.

Kessel

Kessel is by far the top freshman in college hockey. He's superior in almost every aspect of the game. I just hope he comes back next year.

i would say Oshie and Raymond this last month as my top two votes...kessel is up there as well obviously but with the kind of season Nodak and UMD are having Oshie and Raymond really have stepped up and raymonds even held the "A" patch during the month of January...

Yeah your right Kemp probably should't be mentioned here, but I bet he will turn out to be one of the best players mentioned in this group 3 years down the line.

Not a tough choice

Toews doesn't belong in the discussion. He may end up being a pretty good player down the line but his numbers this year don't put him in the category for best freshman. The best freshman should be about who actually produces on the ice as opposed to discussions about future potential. There are only three freshmen right now that sit in the top 20 in league scoring and they are Kessel, Raymond and Oshie (though Oshie is barely in).

In my mind, Kessel clearly gets the nod. Not only is he the top scoring freshman in the WCHA but he is the top scoring freshman in the entire country.

hands down warroad man....TJ Oshie.....just look at his stats he's unbelievable....he can dangle....he can definetly snipe also.....he burned kessel down in the mariucci....he's overall the best freshman ever

Oshie's has 8 less points than Kessel does and Kessel has done it while contributing to a team that is probably going to win the league title. Kessel is going to win it.

yeah but oshie passes the puck kessel doesnt....if u watched the world junior tournament......they were on the power play kessel tried doing everything himself, lost the puck the other team threw it down the ice......tj goes out there passes the puck and they score....two words for kessel....Puck Hog

Kessel is probably the best passer in the WCHA. He did a little too much in the World Juniors but he still led the tournament in assists. Oshie also played well and is a great player in his own right. It's just Kessel does things that Oshie can't.

Kessel has almost twice as many assists as Oshie does. I realize that some of Kessel's assists happen because a teammate scores on a rebounded shot of his but I doubt even half of his assists have come that way.

Kessel is better than Oshie.

kessel is 11th in the NATION in assists, 1st for freshmen...weird how a puck hog can have that many assists....he's also 19th in the NATION in scoring, 1st again for freshmen... Oshie is a great player but i dont' see those numbers. I will admit when i first saw kessel play, he did a little too much himself, but he's learned to give it up more and he's turned into the most dominant freshman in college hockey

Freshman

Right now Phil Kessel has been putting up numbers and helping the top ranked teman in the nation win. Like Crosby said he's not a puck hog because he's leading all freshman in assist.
