Matt Carle from Denver will win the Hobey!

Matt Carle, Defenseman, Denver U. has some impressive stats. I think he will be in the top two or three if he does not win the Hobey Baker award. I just hope he stays around for his senior year next season...

Was he sick last night? I hope there is a reason for playing so bad. What's up with falling down and then taking a year to get up and make it back down the ice? I saw Squirts this year give more effort then that.

He just lost my vote!

Carle

Hey ThunderStorm, Carle already signed with San Jose like last week so his college career is over.

Thanks puckstuff... Probably a very good thing for Carle to do so as he has achieved just about everything he can as a player for DU...

Carle actually scored a goal tonight on his first game with the San Jose Sharks. They played the Wild and smoked em'.

RochesterPucks I'm not positive but I don't think your vote counts nor is it taken into consideration.

Potulny will win one game isn't going to erase what he has helped the Gopher's accomplish, McNaughton Cup sound familiar? a few bad games can't discredit his amazing season. Nice try though.

Vote or no vote my opinion still stands. Big time players show up in big time games and Potulny did far from that.

Isn't the McNaughton Cup the regular season? I always thought the end of all ends is a National Championship. The McNaughton is nice, but I'm sure the Gophers would still like to be playing instead of sitting home.

RochesterPucks, your points do not make any sense as to why Potulny will not win it.

Yes the McNaughton Cup is regular season, as well as the Hobey Baker is REGULAR SEASON statistics, if the playoffs were a factor then Carle would definetiley not still be up for consideration but from everything that I've heard it's pretty much between those two.

The playoffs have no weight on who will win the Hobey Baker Award, there are several examples of this all over the place.

Anyone (RochesterPucks) who thinks that the playoffs have any affect on the Hobey Baker Award won't even listen to this because they are just that close minded.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... flynn87 at: 3/26/06 9:57 pm

It's not that Potulny won't win it, I think he still has a good shot, but his chance has gone from great to good because he wasn't able to get his team anywhere in the playoffs.

Flynn, you are mistaken.

The committee has not yet chosen the winner and they were certainly watching the games over the weekend and have taken no vows to ignore the results.

Potulny would not be a bad choice but neither would Chris Collins, Brian Elliott, or Matt Carle.

In 1999-2000 Steve Reinprecht had more points (66) than Potulny had this season (63) but a defenseman (Mike Mottau) who had fewer points (43) than Carle had this season (53) won the award.

Most people attributed this to the fact that #1 overall seed Wisconsin (Reinprecht's team) lost in their first round NCAA game (round of 8 that year) to BC (Mottau's team).

A pretty strong case can be made for Elliott this year. His team was 3-5 without him (due to injury) and his NCAA leading 25-5-3 record, .938 save pct and 1.55 GAA all include the three games coming back from that injury in which he was clearly not 100% and gave up 15 goals in two and a half games to Tech and Mankato.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... wker>Mitch Hawker at: 3/27/06 9:16 am

So you think Matt Carle would be a good choice because his team made it to the Tournament? or wait they didn't I forgot about that, and they weren't even in the Final Five? really? huh doubt he'll win it then.

Elliot has a good chance yes, but you would hope one game isn't going to be the deciding factor on whether or not Potulny should win, Just as the couple of games after Elliot came back and didn't do so well but has picked it up shouldn't hurt his chances as I have heard a few people say on here.

But if you really look at the stats how many shots is he averaging on net a game, I'm almost convinced a lot of his success can be attributed to the strong defense in front of him not allowing very many shots on goal.

Not This Year

The answer has officially become no. The Hobey Baker Committee named its final three, it Hattrick, today. The final 3 are:

Chris Collins-Boston College
Matt Carle-Denver
Brian Elliot-Wisconsin

It's too bad because now he's gone. He really should have made the final three, he's the top scorer in the nation playing in the best conference in the nation.
