Rolling with the Trojans here. They've picked up their game quite a bit towards end of the season. Have the big win over Edina to close out the regular season and then take down Rogers. Haven't been too impressed with Edina's game as of late having watched them in person a couple times. If Bode McConnell gets shut down, Edina struggles.

Section video/audio is $$$. The schools can broadcast for free, but it has to be audio-only.

StribVarsity games are no cost with a newspaper subscription. Even the basic digital subscription purchased at a deep discount qualifies.

I'm calling the Cake Eaters here. I don't know. There's just something about Giles in these types of games.

Wayzata strikes first...

1-0 late in first.

Wayzata out-Edinaing Edina. They are making life miserable in the neutral zone, forcing a lot of hopeful passes from the Hornets. Edina had a couple flurries but Wayzata was definitely the better team in period 1.

Ok, I deleted a post about the poor stream quality, but now it has completely cut out. An absolutely unacceptable display of amateurism from the Star Freaking Tribune. It is insulting that they are making people pay for this. If they are going to get the rights to all these games, they have to be better.

This strib feed is wild. About half the game has been a black screen, but then when the video reconnects it's like the camera guy doesn't know where the puck is. Gotta be the worst I've ever seen.

What the Trib has done to HS hockey is a shame.

A couple of fluky Bode McConnell goals make it 2-1 Edina. I still don't feel like the Hornets are playing very well, (although I was looking at a black screen for half the period) but here they are with a lead headed to the 3rd.

From what I saw (heard) Edina dominated that period. 12-4 in shots I think. Definitely deserved a goal or two even if they didn’t deserve those goals in particular.

Edina outdoes them again. I'm sure they'll be a force in the tourney.

I was too busy being angry about the stream in my group texts. It's been a long week... I need some sleep  . Seemed like the Hornets steadily found their structure as the game progressed. Add in a few clutch saves from Bjorgaard and you have a recipe for success.

Puck luck found Edina's way. The first Edina goal was one of the flukiest goals I've ever seen in a while. Edina did play better second half of the game and found a way to shutdown Wayzata. Giles' crew gets it done again.

Wayzata absolutely had none.

Great even matchup that could have gone either way. Eli Molde was outstanding. Some times it’s just not your day…and such was the Trojans’ fate.

Curt Giles-led Hornet teams have won WAAAAYY more than an equal share of their 50/50 postseason games over the years. Now they enter state with a Top 3 seed and will be favored on Thursday. 2-1-3 place finishes with a chance to win four trophies in a row.

McConnell's goal apparently made SportsCenter.

Video of the goal for those who haven't seen it already: https://kstp.com/minnesota-sports/edina ... r-wayzata/

If you want to know what "puck luck" is, the goal is the definition of it.

Seemed like McConnell was going for a hard dump in, with the intent for the puck to angle back out in front and he'd try to beat the defenseman to it. Angled to the back of the goal instead, where it then took its interesting route.

Wayzata had more shots in the 3rd, but really didn't have many good scoring chances; I'm thinking maybe only 2 or 3? Less than Edina in the 3rd & they were not playing that aggressively.

Is there any heat or pressure on O'Leary? I don't think there should be because if a coach was only judged on how they performed against Edina in the post season, pretty much every coach in the state minus Mike Randolph would lose their job. But the section loses to Edina are piling up. Not all are equal as some years there is a talent discrepancy, but seems like the years where they seem to be even, Edina still finds a way to win.

There should be zero IMO but I have seen weirder things happen as am sure you all have. Consistency in coaching is nearly nonexistent these days and Wayzata has that. The difference I see at least between them and Edina is they both have a similar size pool of kids in their association but they lose quite a few year after year. They aren't struggling by any means but the difference with Edina is they rarely lose that top end talent to say the privates whereas Wayzata seems to lose more. Both continue to roll on with business as usual but I think Wayzata feels it more in the end.
