Edina's original colors were green, white, and black. When the schools split to East and West in 1972, Edina-East kept those colors and the Hornet nickname. The Edina-West Cougars were forest green and gold (not yellow/gold like today, but like the 49ers gold). The "hideous 2000s jerseys" mentioned above and used for a few years were actually identical to the original green/white/black jerseys worn pre-1981 by Edina/Edina-East (except for a small "East" during those years).
