After the first period at a packed Pagel Activity Center, #1 Tonka leads 1-0 over #2 Edina. PP goal by Javon Moore late in the period. SOG: 9-8 Tonka.

I paid $9.95 to watch this game, but as the announcer Pete Waggoner mentioned to viewers, at this point in the season, you may as well buy the MNHockey.TV monthly package to get all remaining games for the season (and then cancel afterwards).

UPDATE: Tonka leads 2-1 after two periods. Edina's Jackson Nevers tied the game 1-1 with an unassisted breakaway shorty, then Tonka's Ashton Schultz answered a few minutes with a goal from the left wing. Pretty intense the rest of the way with Tonka pressuring on offense. There was a scuffle after the period ended. Not sure if they will assess any penalities (update: no penalties). SOG 22-16, Tonka.

UPDATE: Scheetz with a shorty early in the third period, Tonka leads 3-1.

FINAL: 3-1 Tonka (21-0-2). SOG 28-26, Tonka.

Shortly after BSM went up 3-1 they took a penalty and 1:10 later to a 2nd one. GR had 50 seconds of 5 on 3 and couldn’t score as Benilde killed them both off. I felt they really needed one there. The Red Knights looked pretty comfortable all game.

This could qualify as the most brutal weekend in East hockey history. They've gone from average to lousy.

I’d like to hear Karl’s take on things as it seemed like he was fairly bullish after a few seasons under Coach Pit, but it seems like they have not improved and seem to be trending downward. Was this expected? Do they have talent coming up or what? I know they’ve got a few kids in the pipeline, but there’s always a risk of losing out to other programs and in particular Marshall seems to be trending in the other direction; I wouldn’t be surprised if East loses to them next week…

Benilde has flown under the radar a little this year, but they’ve been very consistent, have a number of great wins, and could surprise everyone in that stacked section. They seem to be peaking at the right time.

I’d agree. Rapids was outplayed only by Tonka, Wayzata, and Edina. The rest of their games were very competitive. The BSM game shots were something like 28-28 but it felt like they were in more control of the game. They being BSM.

Those scores surprised me. The nine goals allowed against Roseau was a season high for East. The 8-0 loss to Rogers was East's worst loss all season (by score). To be sure, both Roseau and Rogers are good teams. Rogers has outscored its last five opponents a combined 33-2. I think East may have been worn out, with the Friday night game at home, then traveling 2.5 hours for a Saturday day game. If varsity travels with JV, it's even a tighter schedule. Not sure why they scheduled it like that as it was the first time all season for East to play back-to-back games with one at home at night, then a day game on the road.
