Just wondering if both those section finals will be back at Mariucci this year. Also heard Mariucci to go to the smaller ice sheet next year and add 200-300 more seats.

I think the Mariucci days are over. They didn't get the crowds to support continuing to pay the rent on the building.

Too bad. Sure was fun when all - or nearly all - the seats were occupied.

Yeah, those were the good days. If you came for just the second game, you were left standing in the concourse waiting to see who left (the few that did) after the first game to grab a seat.

But they are on different nights so we can still watch both of them.

Yup, that was my experience. Stand at the top, and if you left to use the rest room, or for another reason, you lost your spot. Then you're standing behind two other people trying to see. Plus, the U had no clue how to manage ticket sales and the large numbers in the lobby.

Yeah it's interesting with the state tournament still having no problems filling seats why the 2AA/6AA finals night fell so far off. I remember being there luckily for the first game (while having more interest in the 2nd game that particular night) and it was standing room only by the time the 1st game was coming to a close.

Back when 2 and 6 played at the Met Center the bottom bowl would easily fill most years and the upper level quite often was several rows deep.

But I have to make two trips to the west metro now. First they shut down the Coliseum and now no double header at Mariucci. What’s next State at Target Center? 😎

I also remember when there were about 3000 people there at best. The atmosphere was terrible…..The cost was prohibitive from this continuing.

You sure about Jefferson vs Tonka? Like maybe the year 2000? I seem to remember it was Edina vs someone and then late game was Jefferson vs Holy Angels. But there could have been two long OT games...

Yeah, I can believe that was not a big draw.

I could have sworn it was Tonka but it was past my bedtime so maybe I was a little groggy. I had a kid at Jefferson at the time. I think the OT game was Edina v EP.
