Stillwater 3-1 over Mahtomedi. Stillwater is for real, outplaying the Zephyrs the whole game. They have a great goalie in Anderson. 7 game winning streak over Mahtomedi.
Thomas Vanek is an assistant coach for Stillwater. Either his son or a relative plays on the team.

Not trying to take anything away from the Hounds, but what's the deal with Andover? I've heard they've had guys out with injuries here and there, was that the case tonight? They are young on defense, correct? Not a lot of depth behind their high-enders up front? Just trying to get a little context as I have not seem them play. Why are their scores all over the place?

Sure enough, it was real. Obviously you can stick a bunch of asterisks on this one (5:00 road game on a Tuesday in December, Huskies might not quite be 100%, etc. etc.), but it really was that convincing of a performance. If I'm the Huskies, I'm concerned about the back end, which looked very pedestrian. No one in 7AA can compete with that top line, but Thoreson and Conway both seemed to get frustrated and took a few penalties between them. The power play also looked strangely anemic for a unit with that much talent. Maybe they can put things together a bit more, but they did not look like a serious threat to repeat as state champions tonight.

From an East perspective, that was their most impressive game since the 2019 section final. The top line held its own against the Andover big guns and found the back of the net themselves, while the Hounds looked deeper and more stout defensively and got a nice goaltending performance out of Kole Kronstedt. Eden Prairie debacle aside, they have looked like they can skate with just about anyone, and with a performance like this, they're suddenly right in the thick of things in a winnable 7AA. We'll see if they can build on it.
