Why do teams have to sit out when an opponent has a positive. I thought exposure required more than 10 minutes of constant exposure to someone. That was why all the rinks only allowed teams in 10 minutes before their ice time and masks were supposed to have been worn on ice. Makes no sense unless there has been a positive test on team to make a team sit out. An over reaction I think.

Through an unreliable source:
If Hill has no positive tests they would have to quarantine for 7 days and then would be eligible to play. Game was Wednesday of last week, their scheduled game against Wayzata is Wednesday of this week. If MSHSL and Wayzata can agree to move their game to Thursday, they will move forward. Since no games are currently scheduled for Thursday this is plausible and doesn't disrupt the AA tourney.

Aren’t the 4 girls quarterfinals being played on Thursday? I thought I saw somewhere that they were scheduled for 4/1. Maybe that was an April fools joke?

Sort of what I was thinking too. Thus the
unreliable source thing

So in other words, it was a WBL kid. I was afraid of this. Wouldn't it have made more sense to have the tournament 2 weeks after sections to allow teams to deal with any fallout from sections?

Theoretically could a Thursday game be moved out of the X to Mariucci ?

Funny you should say that. I chirped back at my source about the X Thursday, and he quickly responded saying 'so there are no other arenas available for that one game big guy?'
Touché

I thought I heard on the podcast that West agreed to move the 1A semifinal game from Saturday to Monday to accommodate East, the MSHSL said no. It was all for naught anyway since East lost to La Crescent.
I can’t see the MSHSL changing their stance now after precedent was set.

The MSHSL is not the most flexible or accommodating group in the world. Nor are they the most forward thinking bunch. This is an organization that can't seem to find a way to socially distance more than 250 people in a 20,000 seat arena, so I can see them saying "We have set the schedule, we're not changing it".

Yes. Both A and AA. Boys are Friday. Both Finals are scheduled for Saturday.

Just make HM-Wayzata the "8:00 pm game" on Wednesday, by the time that actually gets started at 9:15 pm it'll be more than 7 days after their section final!

If only it carried weight with the MDH and MSHSL.

It is very true that the MShSL is not terribly flexible or blessed with great foresight*. But I can also see why, at this point, you don't want to be shifting things around much, if at all. Yeah, if we just move one game.... But then another covid issue comes up with another team, it could become a huge mess. Changing one variable often affects other variables, too.
When Prep Bowl started in the 80s, it was all on one day. During 1/2 time of the AA (largest class then) there was some marching band show that took FOREVER. If you know anything about marketing, you would put your premier contest during prime time, but the large school game ended after 11:00. People complained for years until the 1/2 time was shortened.
The MShSL is not an organization that looks at a problem and asks how can we make this work? It is far more likely to say No, we cant, end of story.

Why should Hill-Murray be favored? There is whole litany of schools who didn’t get that opportunity in many sports. It sucks, but you can’t change the system everyone competed in now.

Hill has 0 positive tests. Why should they be punished because their last opponent suddenly has a positive test 5 days later? Doesn’t feel like the same thing when they don’t have any positive tests in their program. I haven’t seen any team have a game canceled because a previous opponent had a positive test while they had no positive tests.

Tell that to Mankato East, among others. They faced the exact same scenario.

This happened a ton of times this year.
