Go Park of Cottage Grove!
Throwing darts at walls for possible upsets is fun. They had some success at the youth level and have been playing better down the stretch.
Come on Park. Give us some March Madness...

No chance, but we can all put some hope into Rosemount. STA, for whatever reason, quit playing disciplined defense and tight checking games in favor of trying to outscore their opponents. I'm not sure that will treat them well.

No disrespect intended to Sibley, but apart from everybody emerging healthy it's hard to see anything positive that could come out of having them play Gentry Academy. By way of comparing results against a common opponent, Sibley lost twice to Tartan by a combined 18-1; Gentry beat Tartan 8-1 and outshot them 45-12.

It's a valid concern and applicable to a vast majority of the 1/8 matchups in the quarterfinals.

Does anyone know when the last time an 8 seed beat a 1 seed in a section quarterfinal?

Not sure on 8 seeds, but this was my favorite ever 7 seed win. Down 5-1 with 4 minutes left in the 3rd. I'll never see this again...

Some of these onesided matchups are an unintended consequence of going to two classes way back when. With one class there were more teams in sections and you could have preliminary rounds which eliminated teams that really couldn't compete; usually the top four seeds would automatically be in the region QF. Football has this problem as well with 7 classes and everybody making the playoffs.

1-seed Little Falls lost to a 9-seed, St. Cloud Apollo, in 2011.
Otherwise, the answer is St. Paul Johnson over Tartan, 2009.

After 2:
St. Thomas 3
Park 1
St. Thomas is clearly the faster team but Park has had a few chances. Honestly I only saw the last 6 minutes of the 2nd period as I just hopped on the Park bandwagon today. Love their unis. One period for the rest of your lives, Wolfpack...

Yes and no. The early rounds in the single class era generally helped separate the wheat from the chaff, but there were still some ugly blowouts. Hill brutalized Brooklyn Center 17-2 (it was 4-2 after one) on their way to the 1991 championship. Section 8 had some bad mismatches every year. In 1990 alone there were scores for 14-1, 15-0, and 19-0. Yikes.
Oh, and bad blowouts aren’t limited to early rounds. Remember that Maple Grove dismantled Blaine 15-1 in the 2012 section final?!

So the combined scores of the 6A quarterfinals were 33-4. I’m guessing the semifinals will be a bit more exciting.

Yep, so far this week I've had a propensity to tune in right when the wheels are coming off for the lower-seeded team.

That was actually Cathedral’s second 8-1 loss to Sartell in the last week. Partially it seems like Sartell really has their number, but Cathedral also wasn’t very good.
Everyone from the great run over the past few years graduated or left early, and they were left with very little talent. The top three scorers from this season will graduate as well, and there doesn’t seem to be much coming up in the pipeline. I’m reasonably sure that Cathedral will return as a factor in 6A, but there will likely be a few lean years ahead.
