AA Section Results

Biggest upset in section play so far occurred tonight in Section 8AA, when #3 North Wright County's defeated #2 Roseau. The other shocker was last Wednesday, when #2 Burnsville lost to #7 Park of Cottage Grove in 3AA. But as of 8:20 this evening all of the No. 1 seeds are still in. And other than Roseau and Burnsville, all of the #2 seeds are still playing. It looks like we are well on our way to a very competitive (and skilled!) Class AA State Tournament.

1AA - #1 Farmington
2AA - #2 Minnetonka
3AA - #3 East Ridge
4AA - #2 White Bear Lake
5AA - #1 Maple Grove
6AA - #2 Edina
7AA - #2 Andover
8AA - #1 Brainerd/Little Falls

Edit #1: #2 White Bear Lake defeats #3 Stillwater 3-0; will face #1 Hill-Murray in Section 4AA final.
Edit #2: #1 Brainerd/Little Falls beats #4 Sartell/Sauk Rapids 4-1; will face #3 North Wright County in Section 8AA final.
Edit #3: #2 Centennial tops #6 Rogers 2-1, will face #1 Maple Grove in 5AA final.
Edit #4: #2 Minnetonka beats #6 Bloomington Jefferson 8-2, advances to 2AA final to play #1 Eden Prairie.
Edit #5: #1 Blake beats #5 Cretin-Derham Hall 7-1, advances to 6AA final and will play #2 Edina.
Edit #6: #3 seed East Ridge upsets #1 Eagan 2-0 and goes to State!
Edit #7: #2 Edina eliminates #3 Wayzata 4-2 and will play top-seeded Blake for the 6AA Championship.
Edit #8: #2 Andover scores in the last minute of regulation, and again in the first minute of overtime to edge #1 Forest Lake 4-3 and win the Section 7AA championship.
Edit #9: #1 Farmington scores in the winning goal in the second overtime, beating Lakeville North 5-4 for the right to represent Section 1AA at State.
Edit #10: #2 Minnetonka get two goals from Kate Hoelscher and solid goaltending from Molly Goergen in beating top-seeded Eden Prairie 3-1.
Edit #11: Calla Frank's 50 save shutout performance allowed her second seeded Bears to upset top seeded Hill-Murray 2-0 and win the 4AA championship. Gopher recruit Sidney Shearen had a goal and an assist.
Edit #12: In the Section 5AA final, Lauren Stenslie scored twice to lead #1 seeded Maple Grove over the No. 2 seed, Centennial. SOG were 28-15 Crimson.
Edit #13: Top-seeded Brainerd/Little Falls edges North Wright County, the #3 seed, 3-2, and wins the Section 8AA title.
Edit #14: And in what was probably the most anticipated game of the evening, the second seeded Edina Hornets top rival Blake 3-2 in the 6AA final.

As is so often the case, the finalists in Section 6AA - from which this year's State Champion very well may emerge - is the last to conclude section play. It will likely boil down to either Edina or Blake, as to who represents this section.

Thanks for the updates. I'm not sure how much of an upset that game was at the Ram Center last night. That was NWC's 22nd win of the season and avenges the Riverhawk's 5-4 loss there in December, where they led 3-1 after 2 periods. NWC's Mackenzie Bourgerie scored both of their goals in the third period and their D1 junior goalie, Anna LaRose, came up big with 38 saves.
To me the real upset is the fact that they did it after a six hour bus trip to get to Roseau.

You're probably right, although if you take their KRACH rankings into consideration I do think you have to regard it as a "pretty big" upset. Going into the game Roseau's ranking was nearly 2 1/2 times that of NWC.

Agreed, that certainly put them at a real disadvantage, which they were able to overcome. =D>

I see both of NWC's games against Brainerd/Little Falls were very close, so maybe the third time will be a charm?

You're right - based on the KRACH ratings it was quite an upset. However, last time I checked, KRECH can't even skate.
Based on KRACH, it will also be quite an upset if Edina beats Blake since their score is barely half of Blake's.

The Brainerd vs. NWC game should be very close. Unfortunately for the Warriors, they are without their points leader for the remainder of the season. Haven't seen the venue for that tilt yet, but imagine it will be in St. Cloud.

In 6AA top-seed Blake handily takes care of 5th-seeded Cretin-Derham Hall, 7-1. From the box score this looks to have been a very physical game. 12 penalties were called, and half were for checking! Shots were 42-21; Lily Delianedis with the hat trick.

4AA final should be a good one. Normally it would be a blowout but since it's on NEUTRAL ice the Bears have a shot

Farmington has a 4-1 lead over Lakeville North in the second period. Freshman Clair Enright, a Gopher recruit, has two goals.

Edit: Now 4-2, Panthers score on the power play.
Edit #2: Panthers score early in the 3rd and close the gap to one, now 3-4.
Edit #3: Lakeville North's Olivia Reid scores on a penalty shot to tie it at 4-4. Nice comeback!

True, Andover scores in the final minute of regulation to tie and the first minute of overtime to win.

Better guesses than the “running time” prediction in the WBL game last night. :D

Yep.....watching the game, hm completely dominated play, I don't think WBL had a single controlled possession in the offensive zone the whole game....CALLA was a blast to watch... I was loving every save, very similar to the MG game years ago...by the way, the LIVE STREAM was pretty good

What game were you watching? They got out shot but they had sustained pressure in the HM zone several times. The Bears had to be methodical in their approach and they pounced on the opportunities they had, which with outstanding goaltending won the game. I don’t remember Hill Murrays big guns doing too much so that was another factor.
