If you had to put $500 on this years tourney, who’d you pick and why?

In a year that there’s not just one specific dominating team I’m gonna take my chance and go with Tonka, back to back! It won’t be an easy trek but I think they’ll end the dream state curse (If you’re not familiar, every team featured on dream state and had better odds/expectations to win it all, hasn’t...Stillwater, Eden prairie, Moorhead..can’t remember all the others..)

Not sure who I’d put $500 on...but my dream semifinals is Edina vs Andover AND Blaine vs Tonka

Not probable, but certainly possible.

Anything is possible, but VERY UNLIKELY...unless there’s some kids from 2014 or 2015 coming back to suit up.

I am a little reluctant to pick Andover in 7AA. We have seen this movie before in the that section many times . Think Elk River a few years ago when they lost to Duluth East after building a early 3 goal lead in the section final. Until somebody breaks the northern stranglehold I am still going with one of the 3 northern teams.

I will take Hermantown and Edina.
Second choice Orono and Andover.

The only team with a high level of confidence I have getting through sections is Minnetonka. I can see BSM giving Edina a game when it matters. I think a Andover and DE Final would be competitive since DE seems to kick it into high gear come playoff time.

Will there be any upsets like when 6 seed Robbinsdale Armstrong took down 3 seed Eden Prairie in the quarterfinals? I think Cloquet has a great shot to upset East in the semi’s, but I’m thinking bigger than that. Like Tonka or Edina getting beat in the semifinals. Maybe Buffalo over Moorhead, but I’m not sure that is a Huge upset.

I think only chance Cec has be East is on special teams. 5 on 5 the hounds wore them down and now Kniven is saying Rasmussen is out?

Buffalo over Moorhead as you said.
Edina’s two losses are Hill Murray and Chaska so while it’s really unlikely I could see them possibly losing in the semifinal round vs Cretin or Blake.
Tonka only beat Prior Lake 3-1 the other week, and it’ll be them or Holy Family in that semi so it could potentially be close.

I actually think this is one of those years where the 1 vs 4 semis should be pretty good throughout the state. Of course, in all the ones I mentioned above, they could just as easily be blowouts.

I guess Edina and Hermantown would be the safer picks but I'm going with Andover and Greenway.

I have nothing against either of the first two but it would sure make for a better tournament if the Huskies and the Raiders were playing Saturday.

Seems that each section has a team or two that could throw a wrench in everything for the top seeds.
-Tonka: EP & Chaska
-Edina: Wayzata or the 4/5 game with Blake or Cretin (I don't see Benilde this year, but that's just me)
-Andover: The elephant in the room of having to beat Duluth East in Duluth.
-Blaine: Maple Grove
-White Bear: Hill & Stillwater
-8 seems to be wide open.
-1 seems open as well, with the Lakeville's, Hastings & Century.
-If I had to wager $1,000 on somebody vs. their section field making it to state, I would probably do it on St. Thomas Academy, due to all involved.

Seeding for state will also be interesting if there are a few upsets:
-If Eden Prairie happens to upset Chaska & Minnetonka, how high will they go? They've beaten Blaine & everyone seems to acknowledge their gauntlet of a schedule...but a loss to Stillwater kind of creates doubt with that. Would they give EP the nod over a White Bear Lake?
-I'm guessing if Maple Grove comes out of 5AA, they will get a seed.
-If sections go chalk, seems that 4AA-8AA-1AA would be the 3 unseeded, in that order, if they were to seed 6-7-8....but we all know they don't.

The only way White Bear Lake makes it to State is if Stillwater takes out Hill-Murray in the semis.

Minnetonka repeats and St Cloud Cathedral wins its first title.

I like the DEast pick, especially with last night, but you think they will get the nod at a seed even with Moorhead, who shut them out, making the tourney?

I hope they get the 4 or 5. They play a bit better against Edina than Tonka, and I would be OK with a rematch from last year if DE can even get past Andover.
