Excellent! The states biggest and bestest rivalry in boys high school puckGreen and White Fan wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 11:19 am https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports ... y-matchups
Nope. Sorry Kniven, but that is an exhausting take. It was the best. Probably not even top 5 anymore, especially since they are not in the same class. Gotta have playoff matchups to be in the top tier of rivalries. HM v WBL, DE v CEC, GR v DE, EP v Edina, are all far better. The Warroad/Roseau thing keeps getting regurgitated for some odd reason, but it’s past it’s heyday.kniven wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 12:18 pmExcellent! Go to Roseau you will have your eyes openedTheHockeyDJ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 1:31 pm The Duluth East game at Grand Rapids from 2016 is a prime example of the best rivalry. You can’t get a more electric vibe during the regular season. Again, it’s like people talk up Roseau/Warroad just because it’s what they hear, not because they gave it any conscious thought.
You can’t just choose one game and say that one game proves it is the best. There are highly anticipated games each year. Minnetonka and Andover this year would be a good example. That doesn’t mean that makes a great rivalry. Also I could argue that with 7AA using QRF doesn’t that essentially mean all games have the same weight for the regular season? Your QRF score is really what matters and that factors all games. Head to head has less value.TheHockeyDJ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 1:31 pm The Duluth East game at Grand Rapids from 2016 is a prime example of the best rivalry. Or Warroad, for that matter. I was lucky enough to be up there in 2008 and catch a Roseau game when both teams were outstanding, and it was maybe the best hockey experience of my life. The rivalry is just so intense and historic that it doesn’t matter if one or both of the teams are down. Hockey means everything to those communities, even more so than in Section 7.elliott70 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 1:42 pmGo to Roseau you will have your eyes openedTheHockeyDJ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 1:31 pm The Duluth East game at Grand Rapids from 2016 is a prime example of the best rivalry. Agreed. Section 7 and the entire world does not have anything like Warroad vs. Roseau in high school hockey.Stang5280 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 2:44 pmOr Warroad, for that matter. It was an example of how intense the rivalry can be. Minnetonka and Andover are not rivals, not in the same section. QRF takes something away from the meaningfulness, but Roseau and Warroad aren’t in the same class meaning no chance of a playoff matchup. So talk about head-to-head having no value. Warroad Roaseau is a glorified scrimmage.7TIMECHAMPS wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 2:23 pmYou can’t just choose one game and say that one game proves it is the best. Well I am going back to the 60's for my first memories of these games, so 'old' yeah, you bet. Some of the best games I remember were at Hibbing Memorial for 'Region' 7 semis and finals. But we are talking rivalry - a game that is important every time just for the sake of that game.TheHockeyDJ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 3:17 pmCouple of old farts stuck in 1990.![]()
When was the last time you were at one of these games again?TheHockeyDJ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 3:17 pmCouple of old farts stuck in 1990.![]()
Rankings, play-offs, QRF's, Class this or that, all of that has nothing to do with it.TheHockeyDJ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 3:35 pmIt was an example of how intense the rivalry can be. So remind me what section it is that Edina and EP are in again?TheHockeyDJ wrote: ↑Fri Jan 11, 2019 3:35 pmIt was an example of how intense the rivalry can be.
