The Argy Bargy 3A Thread 2018-2019

Surprised someone else hadn't started the always contentious 3A thread yet.
Marshall beat Breck 4-1 tonight in the first round of the Marshall Thanksgiving tournament. Breck took some dumb penalties, but Marshall played good team defense and had an outstanding performance from their junior goalie Caspers. Mason Plante scored 2 for Marshall, and Welvaert and Archbold had the others. Caspers made 27 saves.
Fargo Davies (ND) beat Pine City Area 12-1 in the first game so Marshall meets Davies tomorrow afternoon.

Breck needed to combine with 2 other schools to field a football team..that won a state title....how many hockey players were missing for football?
Still, a nice win for Marshall, and further proof 3A isn’t the whipping post it once was.

Breck isn't a part of that football team. They have their own team.

That’s a combination of Blake, Minnehaha Academy, and SPA. As Karl said above, Breck took some really dumb penalties, most notably a checking from behind in the second, and Marshall promptly converted. The Mustangs also gave up a really soft breakaway goal with a man coming out of the penalty box just prior to that. They did look like the faster and more skilled team up to that point, but then the wheels just fell off.
Congrats to Marshall on a nice win, and good luck against the Fargo Davies juggernaut. Breck certainly has some things to work on, but I wasn’t totally discouraged and there are some players to build from.

Thanks.
Breck fans, you can watch them play Pine City Area at 2 p.m. at "youtube Marsh Sports live".
Marshall - Fargo Davies will follow, probably around 4:30 p.m.

Fargo Davies 5-2 Marshall in the final of the T-giving tourney.
Three years Marshall has hosted a Thanksgiving tournament and Fargo Davies has won all six games they have played. Time to bring in someone else next year??

True, but my point was that it would be nice if different schools were invited next year. How about a different Fargo school, or one of the Grand Forks schools? Instead of a section 5A squad, how about one of the St. Cloud schools, or one from 7A? I don't mind seeing Marshall get beat, just would like to see some other schools get invited rather than the same three.

Minnesota River beat Luverne 5-3 last night in LeSueur which would have been an upset in the past several years. However, Luverne might be down this year. Minnesota River is a co-op with LeSueur, Henderson, Tri-City, and etc. Used to go by some nasty-long acronym but settled on a better name given that many of those communities are on or close to the Minnesota River.
After six seasons of watching Luverne smack down Marshall, I wonder if this season is time to see a Marshall win. Hoping ...
Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato downed New Ulm last week so I think they are still the 3A favorite for returning to state.
