Team MN in Jr Chowder cup

Team Minnesota is entered into the Jr Chowder Cup tournament here in suburban Boston. The tournament will be played July 8 – 10th and will consist of 48 teams, mostly from Eastern US and Canada. I believe the Jr tournament is for 15-16 year olds. (The regular Chowder Cup tournament, played later this summer, is for junior aged players. There will be two MN teams entering that one!)

Glad to see a Minnesota team make the trek. Any thoughts or comments on Team MN??

<a href="

Thanks for noticing our decision to participate in the Jr. Chowder Cup this year. We are an eclectic group of players from the Northern and Central parts of Minnesota. We will do our best to make Gopherville proud.

We are anticipating some tough competition.

Not sure if this is an updated roster or if you may have missed this one, but Sam Gagner, the son of former North Star Dave Gagner is on this roster:

<a href="

Shouldn't it be the "Chowda Cup?" <img src=

Puckguy - It is the Chowda Cup …. But instead of spelling words the way they are pronounced, this silly English language of ours is always adding silent “r”s to the end of words. <img src=

I recognize a few names on your roster, and with a bunch of SSM player on the team I would expect that you should be pretty strong.

I’m not too failures with the other teams in your bracket. The CanAm Stars are a bunch of Canadians and should be tough. The NY Apple Core is a well established program, which should give them a certain advantage over the put-together tournament teams (such Team MN) that play in these off-season tournaments. HPD is a fairly new league team that looks like mostly Mass and NH players. They could be good.

I’m hoping to get to see a few games next weekend. I’ll report back if I get a chance to see Team MN play.

Looks like a great tourney for all. In the Jr Chowder Cup I think the MN team may do very well. They have just one team and that can only help. Some regions like New England and Ma have many teams and talent looks a little thin. But watch out for a couple of the Canadian teams they seem loaded.
Looking forward to hearing the out come and how the heck they get so many games played in such a short time.
Good luck Mn.

NP guy,

This team represents the gophers? Does that mean all the kids on the team will play for the gophers? In case you didnt know, There are other D 1 schools in the state.

Haha, are you kidding me Cool Guy? He just meant Gopherville as in Minnesota as in that is a nickname. Yes, there are other D-1 programs in the state and we can call St. Cloud Huskieville, but it is technically the University of Minnesota so they get to cover the entire state. Go Gopherville! <img src=

…don’t tell the boss….I got to see Team MN play this morning against the CanAm Stars. Your boys looked very good …. fast …skilled….good team play ….clean. The way the game should be played. A fun team to watch. They should do well in this tournament. I don’t know the final score, but they were up 5 – 1 with a few minutes to play. I hope to see them again tomorrow.

Anyone on this site play in the Jr chowder Cup or know someone who did? Was wondering how well it was run and how tough the competition was. The end results look as though there were about 8 teams from across North America including the MN team that were heads above all the others. Every one of the last ten games or so were very close.
