Section 2AA Final Seeding

Here is the final seeding for section 2AA:
1) Minnetonka
2) Holy Family Catholic
3) Prior Lake
4) Eden Prairie
5) Chaska
6) New Prague
7) Chanhassen
8 ) Shakopee
I would think Tonka would have preferred to play PL in the seminfinals (hard to beat a team 3x in one season). Thoughts?

Tonka and HF in final.
Tonka to state.
Any change to that will be because the bus broke down or something else catastrophic.

A little surprised New Prague got the six seed - figured seventh at best. However, they have put on a decent showing this year, and have a tie against Hermantown to show for it. HFC has an easy path to the final. Minnetonka has to get by an improved Eden Prairie team over the last month, even though the record doesn’t show it.

EP over Chaska is far from a sure thing.

yeah, EP vs Chaska & Cloquet vs DM are arguably the best QRF games this week.

Per MinnHock archives, there have been no upsets in the 2AA quarterfinals dating back to 2008 when this section was realigned to SW metro based high schools.

Definitely going to be some close 4/5 games throughout the state, but these two have by far the most talent and teams with upset potential in section semis and finals.

I'm assuming first win ever over EP.

Streak over. At least Minnetonka won't have to get by an improving Eden Prairie team and have to beat them 3 times in a season.

I doubt it was first ever win over EP. In fact Chaska may have a winning record lifetime against EP if you go back to the 70's 80;s when they were in the Suburban West Conference. GB

The Eden Prairie Community Center was built in the early 80s (1982?), and there was no indoor sheet of ice in the city prior to EPCC being built that I’m aware of. If EP had a hockey team in the 70s, they were likely a co-op. Eden Prairie was a small farming village up until 1974. Interstate 494 going through the northeast side of town started the growth spurt.

Plus, the EPCC used to have the huge blue hockey skate & red figure skate painted on the wall. I don't think EP started getting good at hockey until the skates got removed & painted over...

You are correct on blue hockey skate and figure skate. EP did have their own hockey team prior to the original blue/red skate sweat box and Chaska did too. Don't know exact dates but around 1978 or 1979 is as far back as I can recall. GB

Also, I don't think Co-Ops existed in 70's and 80's. No one in their right mind would consider sharing a team with a rival. Your school either fielded their own team or they didn't have one. Wasn't until budget cuts and demographic changes that Co-ops started. Not to derail topic, but I am, can anyone think of a Co-op prior to 1985 1990? GB

Ha! Those were the days, pre-renovation! I believe there was also in big lettering on the wall "Skate Eden Prairie" or something to that effect. It was straight out of the 80s.

I kind of curious where each school played their games prior to their respective Community Centers being built. Chaska Community Center wasn't opened until 1989.
