Ok, I will throw it out there.

Does CM have better pro potential than Brock Broeser did, when he was somewhere around 20th overall I think?

More than Clayton Keller did, who I think might have been in lower top 10?

(Not that you can ever directly compare different draft years, but thought Id throw this out there for discussion)

Aren't these rankings North American skaters only? So you could be 10 on this list but there will be European skaters who are ranked that high or higher as well?

Is there a list that combines North American and the rest of the world so we can see how the Minnesota kids stack up against the European and Russian kids?

This is the only way that Central Scouting lists players.

There are many, many sports publications and personalities who put out their own "mock draft" lists that combine all players and positions, but usually they'll only do the first one or two rounds of the draft. Just search for "2017 NHL mock draft" and you'll find a bunch of those lists.

Keep in mind, every NHL team has their own draft list. The Central Scouting lists are irrelevant to the NHL teams other than the early lists which help put kids on the NHL scouts' radars.

Got it

Here is my take away

First dozen or so picks appear to be heavily centered on North American skaters vs the rest of the world

Estimated 80% of the top picks shoot LEFT

Estimated 90% are 5'11" or taller

Any other "interesting or fun stats" ?

European skaters are also ranked by Central and there's a link on the link.
Boeser better.

I would imagine, though, that there is some correlation between those leaving early and the talent differential those players have over those that stay. Obviously, there are exceptions to the general rule.

I don't think Jack Ahcan left Burnsville early.

Ahcan is an overrager. This isn't his first year eligible, but he's improved his stock quite a bit this year.

Boeser was 23rd, Keller was 7th.

Mittelstadt is a better prospect than Boeser was but pretty similar to Keller. 2017 is considered a pretty weak draft year.

Some of these guys never even played high school hockey like Pratt, Mismash, Reedy and I think Rasmussen. Also, I'm not sure I consider Poehling a player who left high school hockey. Sure he decided to graduate early and that was his decision, but technically he graduated while playing his last season at Lakeville

Some poor word choices on my part.

The bolded players are in fact those that didn't play high school hockey last year. That doesn't have any bearing on whether they chose to play somewhere else vs. high school hockey or had already graduated.

The "left MN high school hockey" phrase should have been something like "chose a different route than playing MN high school hockey and/or left early."

Green, the Poehling example is a matter of interpretation that's been debated already I think. If a kid accelerated his graduation, he didn't stay to play with his classmates and therefore left early is one point of view. His situation is atypical also because he was also able to play with his brothers, which I think is pretty cool, everything else aside.

On its face, those that chose a different route than MN high school hockey and/or that left early are ranked higher as a group than those that stayed. Just an observation for this year's group, but I am curious how it compares to other draft classes.

NightMan, I appreciated your feedback on my question

Please clarify. Is it your opinion that someday CM will be somewhat better NHL player than Brock Boeser and about the same quality of NHL player as Clayton Keller? If so, no doubts in your mind?

Or, are you saying that is the NHL scouts consensus opinion at present?

I think his ceiling is higher than Boeser's but CM is more of a boom-or-bust prospect than Boeser so it's hard to say definitively that he will be a better NHL player.

If I could choose between the two, I'd take Mittelstadt.

Yes. It comes out June 23-24.

Active Minnesotans in the NHL have shot up from around 28/30 two to three years ago to 44 this year!! Similar numbers to Russia in the league..

* I do know about the KHL and that there could be some crossover talent.

Just an observation. Looking at the list of over 200 North American skaters there are no Tier 1 U18s. eg. Honey Baked, Belle Tire, Culver, Chicago Mission etc. No Shattuck seniors either. Are they not old enough for this years draft?

Believe most of the players who take those routes who are serious draft prospects are in the USHL by now.

Good point. I guess leaving early for Juniors isn't just a MSHSL phenomena.
