Thanks, looks like I missed both Elizabeth Norton who plays for Orono (the USA roster shows "Jr. Whitecaps") and Gracie Ostertag of Shakopee, who plays for Shattuck St. Mary's.

So the complete list of the eleven Minnesotans - half the team! - is:
1. Taylor Heise - Red Wing
2. Natalie Heising - Wayzata
3. Gabrielle Hughes - Centennial
4. Anneke Linser - Centennial
5. Elizabeth Norton - Orono
6. Emily Oden - Edina
7. Gracie Ostertag - SSM
8. Catherine Skaja - New Prague
9. Taylor Wente - Maple Grove
10. Madeline Wethington - Blake
11. Grace Zumwinkle - Breck

Best of luck to all of these girls.

USA wins their opening game over Russia, 6-1. Natalie Heising (Wayzata), Anneke Linser (Centennial) and Taylor Wente (Maple Grove) were all strong contributors offensively with a goal and an assist each.

Game two vs. Sweden will be played and streamed live tomorrow (Sunday) at 12:30 our time. If you want to watch click on the "Sweden - USA" game at this site:

Wouldn't the top Minny HS team finish 3rd in this tourney?

Watch Sweden today to get a better sense of how a team like Edina (with Emily Oden) would stack up. Edina probably has the most depth of any MN high school team, and I think you would need a pretty strong 3rd line and D pair to hang with Sweden or Russia.

The US and Canadian women's development programs have really separated themselves from the rest of the world. Unfortunately that doesn't bode for a very competitive tourney, the talent disparity is quite evident ihmo.

Keep in mind with the Sweden litmus test, that Oden is the arguably 3 - 4 best player on a deep Edina team.

Good thing it is not a summer Olympic sport or they might drop it like they dropped softball in the olympics. Edina would be a solid third in this tourney. Could just go with a team Minny IMO.

After watching the Sweden-USA game yesterday I don't think a single MN team (including Edina) would beat the Swedes, certainly not in a series. With all their talent the Americans were only up 1-0 halfway through the game, before pulling away by adding three more in the second half of the game.

Just my opinion, of course. We'll never know the real answer because the game will never happen.

Silly statement about Oden...

The high school teams would struggle because of depth, the Elite League teams would fare much better as would the top Tier 1 teams ( SSM & Mission)

The statement isn't a knock on Oden, she's a great player. It was about the depth of Edina, simply using Oden as a reference point.

Um....there are not 2-3 players on Edina that are better...

Maybe they should do a team North America or do 2nd teams in both US and Canada

After a scoreless three periods of regulation Canada nets the game winner in a five minute, 3 x 3 overtime. Not sure how important the loss is for the U.S. as with a 2-1 record you would assume they still advance to the quarterfinals (?).

Was able to stay home from work this morning and catch the live stream USA vs Canada game. Love coach Johnson but his girls were cluless in the 3-3 session. The ice was tilted the whole overtime period and team USA was skating around in circles. The game winner was scored on a terrible line change that the USA coach called for. Again love the coach but his team was not prepared for a 3-3 situation and the line change was the wrong choice. Hope they have a chalk talk and get it corrected before the Gold medal game. Go USA

I agree, it looked like the USA had no idea how to play the 3 on 3 OT. Pure chaos, and the Canadians took advantage. They either better study up, or make sure they win all their remaining games in regulation.

The U.S. shuts out Russia today 6-0, advancing to tomorrow's championship game against Canada (noon, our time). Minnesota girls scored all the goals today, with Grace Zumwinkle leading the way with a hat trick. Taylor Wente, Catherine Skaja and Natalie Heising also scored.

Would have to say Team MN, and decisively if selected Shattuck girls go to Team MN! :)

Final was 3-1 USA. Grace Zumwinkle with the winning goal and Emily Oden with the open net clincher.

Congrats to all the Minnesota girls on a great tournament, and safe journeys home!
