Alex vs. St Cloud Cathedral for the trip to state

Alex, Cathedral, Sartell are the top 3. No particular order this early.

Fergus then Little Falls are the next tier.

Alex beat Little Falls 9-3 last night. Little Falls is better than that score and had some great additional chances, but boy does Alexandria have speed. Top line scored 7 of the 9 goals, but there is depth.

Little Falls has some very talented players, but not as deep. However, last year proved that they always have a chance to beat anyone in this section.

All 5 teams above can make a run in sections. Should be a fun year to watch in section 6a.

I had Little Falls over Fergus in the section, but now found out that LF top Dman and probably best player is out for at least most of the season and maybe the whole season with a foot injury. LF is very light on the D end. Hopefully they improve down the stretch and give LF a chance to make the final 4 at sections. But Alex exploited the young D corp big time.

These two teams were pretty evenly matched. Alex couldn't handle St. Cloud's top line but St. Cloud has no depth. Goaltending was non-existent last night so the score was a little inflated. I can see Alex making a deep run in 6A.

St. Cloud Cathedral definitely #1 right now in section 6A
Alexandria not far behind at #2
Sartell-Saint Stephen #3 team

dark horses
Fergus Falls
Little Falls

no chance to make top 4
River Lakes Stars
Wadena-Deer Creek

need to improve youth program
Prairie Centre Area

I don't know what to say........
(hope they are having fun and keep at it)
Breckenridge-Wahpaton Blades

This should be a two horse race if Alex stays healthy and disciplined.
Any one have anything on Sartell.

Sartell is a young team that is going to have some growing pains as the season goes along( although it hasn't happened yet)...have probably the best player in the section in USHL Sioux Falls draftee Spencer Meier ... new goalie has played well so far but would probably still put them at #3 in the section as of now.

#11 Sartell vs #14 Northfield was a pretty entertaining game between a couple of ranked Class A teams with state tournament aspirations. Sartell controlled a majority of the play with the shots ending 43-20 Sartell.. Game ended in a 3-3 tie with an exciting back and forth overtime period where both teams had multiple chances to get the win.

Alexandria beats Greenway in OT on Tuesday, Virginia on Wednesday and Hibbing in OT today. Not a bad holiday showing for the Cardinals up north.

Sounds like Alexandria is still using their three goalie rotation of two sophomores and a freshman. Only two of the three games have write ups on the Echo Press, but here they are:

Alexandria 5, Greenway 4 OT

It's actually a junior, sophomore and freshman. All 3 have looked very solid.

Thanks zoomx. The only game I have been able to get to was the Alex/Moorhead game. I thought the roster said two sophomores and a freshman, but I could have looked at it wrong. You are right though, all three are playing well!

Anyone at the Sartell and Cathedral game last night? I was expecting a much closer game than 7-2. I know that Sartell's goalie is a bit shaky seeing him a couple times this year, but letting in 7 goals seems a bit more than shaky. This game puts Cathedral at the top of this section with Alex a close second.

It definitely was a much closer game through 2 periods. Cathedral was up 3-2 after the second with Sartell having a slight edge in chances/momentum heading into the third. Goaltending in the third was rough for Sartell with the net minder letting in two extremely soft goals early in the period. This seemed to take the wind out of the sails of Sartell and they couldn't get anything going after that. I wouldn't say Alexandria is a clear #2 behind Cathedral since Sartell beat them the first time around.. Their second meeting could very well determine who gets the 2 seed.

I was never good at math but.....

Alex has major problems losing not just to
Sartell but to Fergus Falls.... Alex 2nd half is extremely easy....Thry will need to beat Sartell and Fergus Falls to get a shot at 2nd[/code]

Bemidji, East Grand Forks, St. Cloud, and Brainerd define an "extremely easy" 2nd half schedule?

Of course they need to beat Sartell and Fergus to be #2, but that has nothing to do with strength of schedule.

Some may think the Cardinals loss to the Otters was a complete upset
but after seeing the Otters take it to Warroad 3-0 and knocking off the then 2nd ranked Governors from St. Paul I certainly don't see that as an upset.
The Otters are short on depth but have improved significantly as the season has progressed. They also have had outstanding play in the net.
This weeks Otter vs Cardinal game in Alex should be a real barn burner in a great barn.

Please pardon my error as I had my info incorrect stating the Governors
were ranked 2nd. I believe they were ranked 3rd up until recently on mnscores.net.

Rubber... I wasn't trying to be harsh, I didn't even know mnscores existed until you just mentioned it. How much faith do people put into those rankings?
I wish followthepuck had more time to keep his site up to date especially with the section standings! How would you seed this section as of today?
