Class A Rankings 2-21-2016

20 Class A teams still alive. 12 will be eliminated this week.
1. [1] Hermantown (23-2-1) [13-0]
The Hawks beat Greenway 2-1 during the regular season and then 9-0 in sections. Have they been taking it easy during the season? How will the game with Hibbing go?
2. [2] Breck (22-3-1) [15-0-1]
The Mustangs beat the 9 seed 12-2 but haven't played their semifinal game yet. They'll play Blake, who they beat 5-0 and 9-1 in the regular season, and likely Delano, who they played on the road the first game of the season in a 9-7 victory.
3. [3] Mahtomedi (17-6-3) [8-1-1]
The Zephyrs beat the 9 seed 11-2. Next up is a Totino team they beat 9-5 during the regular season and likely an SPA team they beat 3-2 early in the season.
4. [5] Hibbing (24-3) [19-2]
The Bluejackets beat Denfeld in the semis and next up is a Hermantown team they lost to 7-0 in the regular season finale. Can they muster up more goals this time?
5. [6] Thief River Falls (21-6) [16-3]
The Prowlers added two more shut outs to their season and now have East Grand Forks on Thursday. Can they beat the Green Wave a third time?
6. [7] Delano (19-7) [16-3]
The Tigers beat Orono 6-1 then were upset 2-1 in their last match up. If they beat them, they likely play a Breck team they managed 7 goals on in the second game of the season.
7. [8] St Cloud Cathedral (19-7-1) [18-6]
The Crusaders were handed a pathway to state when Little Falls upset Apollo in the semi's. They definitely shouldn't look past the game, but they did beat the Flyers 4-3 and 7-4 during the regular season.
8. [9] St Paul Academy (21-5) [16-5]
The Spartans should be able to get past South St Paul and meet Mahtomedi in the final. If they can beat the Zephyrs, who they lost to 3-2 during the regular season, they could make a good case for a top 3 seed at state.
9. [10] Blake (14-12) [10-8]
The Bears have Breck up next. Their road to state is very uphill as they've been crushed twice by Breck and beaten by Delano.
10 [12] East Grand Forks (15-10-2) [14-5]
The Green Wave are still the two-time defending state champs and after getting one of their top players back should still be in every game. They lost to TRF 5-0 and 4-2 the first two meetings; can the 3rd be different?
11. [15] Orono (16-9-1) [12-5-1]
The Spartans upset Delano the last time they played; can they do it again? If they AND Blake can muster upsets in the Semi's, Orono has a good chance of making it to state.
12. [-] Little Falls (19-7-1) [18-7-1]
The Flyers got their first "quality win" of the season in an upset of Apollo. They lost to Cathedral twice this season; can they win the third?
13. [-] Totino-Grace (8-16-2) [2-4]
The Eagles lost to Mahtomedi 9-5 during the season, but if they can manage an upset it wouldn't be out of the question to win the final as well.
14. [-] Luverne (20-5) [20-5]
The Cardinals beat Litchfield 6-3 during the regular season, so they are likely to make it to state.
15. [-] Northfield (20-6) [13-6]
The Raiders beat Mankato West 8-3 and 5-2 during the regular season. Can they repeat?
16. [-] Mankato West (14-11-2) [8-11-2]
The Scarlets have allowed 1 goal in each of their section games; they'll need to do that again to beat a team they lost two twice during the regular season.
17. [-] South St Paul (14-12) [10-6]
The Packers lost their season finale 7-0 to St Paul Academy. Can they score a couple more times in the rematch?
18. [-] Litchfield ( 19-8 ) [19-8]
The Dragons have two 1 goal wins in sections so far. They lost to Luverne 6-3 during the regular season; can they win the rematch?
19. [-] Princeton (20-7) [18-5]
The Tigers beat Monticello 4-1 and 5-2 during the regular season.
20. [-] Monticello (12-14-1)
The Moose making it to state would be a huge upset. They upset Chisago Lakes to get here; can they do it again?

Apollo's loss clears up any doubt there may have been about the top 3 seeds: Hermantown, Breck, and Mahtomedi should all control their own destiny there now. The 8A rep is basically assured of #4 or #5, though I guess TRF could climb to #3 if Mahtomedi loses. Cathedral will be 4 or 5 if they win 6A. The only real question left: if Little Falls goes to State, is their impressive run through sections enough to snag the 5-seed ahead of Luverne? I'd say yes, but the Cards could at least make an argument.

If the cards win you mean. Don't underestimate the Dragons.

I believe what Karl is saying is that Luverne is the only team from 3A that even has a chance of getting seeded and that chance is very small. If Litch wins they will not be seeded at state.

Litch isn't winning.

Luverne is 22-5, not 21-6. Litch can and may win but the Cards have out scored their opponents 25-0 in Section play. If (and it's a big if!) they beat Litch by 5+ they should get a look as a 5 seed.

Well, as expected Hermantown will be the #1 seed at state. Looks like Mankato West, LDC, and the 5A winner will be the unseeded teams. I know the draw is "random", but here's a guess as to the seeds:
1. Hermantown
2. Breck/Delano
3. Cathedral
4. TRF/EGF
5. SPA/TG or LF if they win 6A.
6. LDC
7. Princeton/MAML
8. West

TRF/EGF should be #3 now. The 4/5 game will likely be a private party unless Little Falls can pull the upset.

The best part about this is that unless Little Falls pulls off the upset Hermantown is guaranteed to face a private in the Semi's. Not saying any of those three privates have even a sniff of knocking off H'Town but crazier things have happened.

Didn't SPA destroy EGF earlier this year?I don't see how EGF would be the 3 over SPA should both make it to the X.If TRF wins section 8 then yes they should be the 3 seed.
