Why does Rochester have 3 separate girls HS programs? Are they all strong enough to self sustain? Looking at playoff scores it seems like it might make more sense for them to combine.

Looks like some great OT games last night, but not for Rochester.
38% (6) of all section games yesterday both Classes were decided by 1 goal and 62% (10) were decided by 2 + goals, including both Mayo and Century 11-0 and 8-0, JM lost 4-3. Can't wait to see the scores as these teams move to the next games with all the teams sitting on byes ready to play them.

You are right asking the question, are they strong enough to have three teams? Or are these teams better suited for A if they maintain 3 teams or should they consider co-op if they have to play AA. Does anyone really benefit losing 11-0 in their first section game?

As numerous posters have stated, the girls game is growing 30%, so hang in there Rochester, probably in a year or two you can add another team and have four ready for sections.

As the first coach and commissioner of girls hockey in 1996, I cannot believe the state high school hockey is in. As a city with plenty of rinks and a decent population there must be Eason they can't develop talented players. I understand that it's hard to play a Winona and then a Lakeview team. I know that our early teams concentrated on training and playing to compete with the cities teams. I can only guess that the leadership and focus has been lost. Having also coached on the iron range with little resources and few players, we were never satisfied with just being there or if one of our players were featured on TV as athlete of the week. Work ethic pride kept the team focused. I don't know what the answer is, coop isn't it. What do you do when that doesn't work. Like it or not off season training and competition most likely would would solve much, but leadership can only do that. After 25 years involved in hockey and having one child playing playing for a national championship and at the same time another child only making a C team, I have scene it all. I appreciate all the forum input good and bad, because it shows that people are engaged and care. I will miss all of it, the good and the heartbreak. I cherish everyday I was involved. As my youngest goes into the Air Force, I know her experiences will always be with her.
