Any thoughts? Hibb can score can Rapids? Pride of the range is on the line. Will perunovich control the ice?

This will be the best team Hibbing has faced this season. Rapids' depth at forward will be a shock to Hibbing defense, but Bluejacket forwards should be able to get chances vs Thawk defense, although Hain makes that a tougher proposition.

If Rapids stays out of box, they should win. If they give Perunovich and Co. too many pp chances, that will even the ice and Hibbing will be right in it.

Heart says Hibbing, head says Rapids.

Rapids 4-3. (I'd love to be wrong.)

When Cloquet came to Hibbing, Memorial Building was 75-80% full, so for Rapids it may get close to being full. Could be 2,500-3,000 people there. Should be a great atmosphere.

Now back to conversation that isn't ridiculous. I unfortunately have not been able to see Peronuvich play yet, probably won't until Feb. 20. A month ago I probably would have thought this game could be close. GR looks like they finally have their lineup set and even vs Hermantown last week they really didn't play a bad game, but I know some fans can only be surface analysts. The only games GR really didn't play very well were at LVN, EP, and ER. Coach Klatt was mad after those games, he was not mad after Hermantown.

Back to this game, Hibbing Memorial Arena is one of my favorite barns, probably going old school it is my favorite outside of the IRA, followed closely by the old DECC and Hodgins. The 7AA tourney at Hibbing was one of the best atmospheres you can find for HS hockey. Not saying I want to ever leave Amsoil Arena, but they are great memories.

GR should win this game, but this game feels a lot closer to the old IRC days when Hibbing played AA. I think much like GR's game at Cloquet, Hibbing can keep it close and they'll need outstanding goaltending. I think GR wins 4-1.

Bottom line, scoring goals hasn't been an issue for them. If it is for them, then every team in MN has scoring problems.

I guess I view this game the same way I have for 40 years. It should be another typical Hibbing/Rapids game. Either team could win. It's just a matter of scoring more goals than the other team. Hibbing, Greenway , and GR have played countless epic games over the years. Just because 2 of them decided they should play in A instead of AA really doesn't change anything.

It may change the expectation of some fans, but in reality, that won't have much influence once the puck is dropped.

Don't be surprised to see the bluejackets come out on top this game. Remember, Rapids isn't exactly the model of consistency.

If names won games/championships they are the answer, but it doesn't. Grit, rising to the occasion, character does, (Rapids seems to lack here)...that will get em riled up!

What is "consistency" at this level? Unreal, beat a team 9-0 and still get criticized. If they won 14-0 the message would be they were unsportsmanlike for running up the score. Bottom line, some teams receive blind hatred no matter what they do.

I am not sure we hate anyone blindly.
And if there is hatred, it is definitely not against the team.

I think its more dumbfounded about some of the fans.

BSM is undefeated, and so is Hibbing. So I understand where ppl are coming from, consistency means being undefeated. Got it!

I don't think of THawks as being inconsistent, but just not playing to what we were given to believe was their potential.

When that happens the conclusion would be they were not as good as we were told. I think the team is in that 8 to 10 range in AA. That they will give section 7AA a run. if they get through that they will need to pick it up a bit to get to the top (as will most, as the top 4 will be tough).

And if you do not know the top 4 its LN, EP or HFC, Blaine and BSM.

Then ER (or DE or GR), STA (Rosemount), Bemidji or Moorhead, and Stillwater or HM.

Interesting that each section has at least two if not 4 teams that have a shot at getting to state. A lot of parity this year.

I think it means that when you close your eyes and imagine the team that is going to show up to play you don't open them and say " will it be the one that works hard and scores goals or will it be the one that skates like it does not really want to be there or care one way or the other". A consistent team shows up every night and works it tail off. GR is not consistent, their Sr line is so unpredictable and inconsistent that I think Rapids would be better off if the coach just sat them and let the 10th graders who seem to be working hard play. There is too much ego surrounding GR hockey for the coach to do that I realize but I think that is how Rapids could go farther.

I can see Greenway winning this game. Granted I think it will be a slugfest with a lot of goals scored but I think Greenway can out last them and out "heart" them.
