Was very surprised to not see any topics on this subject today. A lot of American kids taken in the first round........... only one skater from MN as expected........

Most of the mock drafts and rankings I saw expected two skaters to go, including Paul Bittner from Crookston. I was very surprised he didn't get taken in the first round.

Boesers stock really increased as time went on

He is really to be commended for hard work and consistency wherever he plays. And quite a physical offensive guy for his age . ( Also, I think his ability to physically and mentally recover from the high school broken ankle and some other minor injuries impressed some people.) I will be a little curious how many years he will stay at UND, now that they have a new coach.

Bittners stock kind of stayed about the same over time, he went pretty close to the first round. Elliott and Warrior I think both thought he would need a couple years in the NHL minors, not quite ready for NHL yet?

Novak dropped a little, a wizard with the stick but still perhaps not as physical as needed?

Borgen went about where expected

Jesse Gabrielle went in the low 100s, i cant remember where CSS last had him.

Zuhls in the 5th round to the Lightning, good pickup for them.

Becker early in the 7th, not a surprise to me anyway

Sadek low in the 7th to the Wild, way below where expected. (Although SATS always said he needed some footwork improvement and physicality)

Surprised Jaremko didn't get drafted. Best case is to develop in USHL and at Mankato, get into a NHL prospects camp then be set as a college free agent. Tyler Johnson and JT Brown took that route to Tampa.

Agree he could be a Tyler Johnson type if all goes well. He certainly has developed the moves and overachieved each year, and hope he does next also. I saw him two or three times last year and frankly thought WOW, in the class of Novak with the stick and the skates. I wonder if he is done growing heightwise, Im sure he will bulk up some. I may have to check out the Mavs on TV next season.

I was referring to the prospect camp with Johnson, wasn't he in the WHL?

Don't believe I ever said Sadek needed improvement on footwork, as he is a superb athlete. His physicality, yes. With his size and frame it would benefit him more to play a physical game. Some kids just don't have that element to their game, or personality really. When all was done saturday I was truly surprised to see him go as late as he did with all the attention he got, heck he was even invited to the combine. As my friend keepyourheadup said though, Sadek not playing in the USHL may have hurt his stock. I think Borgen went way up with way he played in Omaha this spring. Time will tell. Unless you are McDavid or Eichel its usually a betting game anyway.

He also played his way into college this coming season. He was originally slated to play next season in Omaha, but proved he was ready for D1 with his solid play. Huskies were still planning on finding a late addition defenseman until quite late in the USHL season.

Ryan Zulsdorf being picked up in the later rounds make it 5 years in a row that an Edina product has been selected!

Is it ever too early to talk about not just the 2016 draft, but how about 2017?

http://www.tsn.ca/get-to-know-them-patr ... 7-1.389307

Obviously, it is wayyyyyy too early for a realistic list for something a year and half in the future, but they have two Minnesota kids in the top 15 so it could give you something to be excited about.
Or you can be on the other side and see how wrong they are when they are both picked in the mid 5th round.

Wow, hard to believe they will be in the same rarified air of Boeser or Bellows, but we certainly can be optimistic!

I guess we may as well fast forward to Ben Brinkman or even Bobby Brinks draft year, to further the speculation.

(Notice all the last names beginning with B)
