Continuing the tradition of past years we invite all forum readers to participate in this year’s “2015 State Tournament - Pick the Winners Challenge!”. As with our just-concluded Section contests sinbin and I will be sharing duties on this final "pick 'em" contest of the season.

There are no prizes other than bestowing entrance to the winner into the prestigious "Minnesota Girls High School Hockey Forum Prognosticator Hall of Fame". At this point in time we should pay tribute to last year’s winner – Sparlimb – who is also just coming off a huge win in this year’s 'Class AA Sections' contest. It will obviously take a tremendous effort – and great skill - to unseat Sparlimb, a seasoned pro who seems to only get better with each passing year. It also goes without saying that the more forum readers who meet this challenge head-on by choosing to participate, the greater the chance that a new champ will enter "The Hall" in 2015. And, even if you get unlucky and don't do especially well, it’s still a fun way of following both tournaments as you cheer on your favorite team(s)!

Here are the contest rules:

1. Class A predictions (all games) must be posted by Wednesday, February 18 at 11:00AM.
2. Class AA predictions (all games) must be posted by Thursday, February 19 at 11:00AM.
3. We will predict scores for the quarterfinal games only. Predicting the WINNER of each quarterfinal game is worth 3 points. Any correct quarterfinal SCORE adds 2 bonus points.
4. Predicting the WINNER of the four semifinal games is worth 5 points (each).
5. Predicting the WINNER of the Third Place and Consolation games is worth 4 points (each).
6. Predicting the WINNER of the two championship games is worth 10 points (each).

Well to be honest, I didn't remember picking Buffalo, but good thing the indigestion hit when it did and I typed their name. I did pick Wayzata over MG and Edina over EP, but those weren't that big of upsets...

And last year was really down to me and one other guy as the only ones who picked Hill. Easy to win when your team happens to be the one that wins it all. If I had any guts, I'd have picked Blaine this year as they are the hottest team entering the tournament...

That "one other guy" was Maverick2000, who actually out-pointed everybody in Class A, including by 12 over you Spar. In AA however Mav was blanked in the lower bracket semi, the 3rd place game and the consolation, games where you went 3 for 3 and picked up 13 crucial points to grab the 1st Place Trophy. It was truly one of those "defining moments" in the history of Girls Hockey prognostication.

I haven't seen Blaine play, but beating Tonka and beating Centennial is impressive. Blaine v Lakeville South will be a good game. If anyone wants to meet at the Liffey or Burger Moes or something between sessions, let me know (send a pm). I might be convinced to stay for the night session.
