Curious to see what you gentlemen thought of the weekend.

I watched the 4 games my daughter played in and about 1/2 of 2 other games.

There was some good hockey played and there are some really nice players that are 2nd yr Peewee/U12 age. Knowing that most of these girls are going to be 7th graders this year (I am no MN hockey age expert but I think that a July/Aug birthday could be a young 8th grader or an old 7th grader) it was sort of fun to think which of these girls might be impact players on their HS teams in the coming years.

With AAA being generally a birth year thing it is hard to know if this group of girls are/were most of the best of the class of 2020 or if there were lots of girls missing from around the metro/state. I know that there were a couple of girls that were out of town for soccer tournaments that certainly would have been average or better players if added to the pool.

YHH did a great job on running the tournament and having many of the games actually available to watch on the internet was great for grandparents and family that were out of town for the tourney.

Edina had probably 6-8 players spread out on the 4 teams (most on the Mavericks) and if all stay in the program thru the HS they will certainly have a nice group in 2018/19/20.

Players that were impressive to watch were Lily Deliandis (Edina), Mannon McMahon (Maple Grove), Margaret Nicholson (Minnetonka), CeCe Ziegler (Highland?), G Anna LaRose (Wright County), Maddy Mashuga (Anoka), Addy Hackley (Wayzata), and Addy Burton (Orono).

One player that was on the original invite list but didn't play was Olivia Mobley of SLP. She is definitely one of the top 2nd yr Peewee/12U girls in the state.

Overall a great weekend with some really good girls hockey.

Anybody else have thoughts?

On top level "2nd year u12/Peewee girls" that were in the PW Challenge?

Or some top girls that were NOT in the PW challenge?

Saw almost all of the games my daughter played in. Great Hockey :D thought all teams were very even. Top end talent Kensie Malone was super must play boys. Some great players Mannon Mcmahon is the real deal.

A little research indicates Kensie played U12A for Armstrong / Cooper last season.

I believe McMahon played PeeWee for OMG.

IMHO there were some great players, but the overall teams were pretty weak considering. The price of all-star single weekend invite teams at every level. Lots of programs and especially outstate (north and south) teams unrepresented entirely. I am curious if there will be much overlap in the HP 14s "event" this weekend. Overall a great lead in to the season.

Some numbers I found interesting, just breezing through it. May not mean anything but which teams were a little older and which a little younger. Noting the selected girls from programs represented at the state tourney:

1st & 2nd -- 0
3rd & 4th -- 6
5th & 6th -- 0
7th & 8th -- 6

Well, to be fair (and if I'm reading your assertion correctly), not too many 7th graders are skating for BSM and Hill-Murray at this point. They're mostly still skating for Edina, NE Metro, Hudson, and Wayzata.

End-to-end rushes are a criterium used for selecting the ATT?

The rosters are out for this weekend's HP 14/15...the girls that were in the PW challenge:
D2 - Einan, Parent, Ligday
D3 - Martini
D5 - Martin
D6 - Doll
D10 #1 - Bertolas

Might have missed someone, but that's it at first glance.

Mannon did play PeeWee's last season for OMG. I'm skeptical of this thread as Mannon's not eligible to be a returning U12 or Peewee... She's an 8th grader that will tryout for the HS...and yes, she is a great player!! Interesting seeing a lot of these names...many of which are playing for Os Select teams...either 01 or 01-02

There were plenty of machine and ice cougar kids and miracle gold also. An interesting point might be the fact that the MVP of the tournament doesn't play summer hockey. It was great hockey. From what I saw over the weekend Brainerd will be the team to beat at u 12 this winter their two best players couldn't play last weekend

How much effort did she exert to get that 01 group?

A couple of observations:

I think that Mannon McM is a July/August birthday. Making her a young 8th grader but still eligible to play U12? She played Peewee AA at OMG.

Lily Deliandis was a 1st yr Peewee B1 at Edina last year. (could she make Edina PW AA this season?!?)

Addy Burton played PW B1 for Orono.

Margaret Nicholson played Super League 1 (1st year checking) at MN Made and has been there for years.

Madeline Skelton (not mentioned until now but a really nice player) played Super League 1 at Made last year.

Gracie Johnson played Hopkins Peewee A and Super League 1 at Made last season.

Several of the 01 Os Selects sought out leaving Machine to go to Os...dont know how involved Winnie might have been in the recruiting aspect of what happened there. I believe that Mashuga, McMahon, Burton, & Hartung all played peewee cup and played for that Os team.

Many of the Huskies are/were 02 Machine Orange. Too many to name.

Fun to see some talk on the board as we approach the season...will be really fun to see who plays boys, girls, HS, MN Made this season...options are many for some and limited for others. Yay for Kenzie for not playing on a AAA team. She is fast and speed kills at almost any level of boys and girls...she also has some moves to go with that speed. Was very impressed by the shootout performance of the Huskies in their first game.

None of the six mentioned playing boys hockey are on skate's list of playing in the MNH program this weekend. I suppose the 2 exclusively at the made aren't members of USA Hockey. Did the other 4 tryout and not make the district team, or do they consider themselves boys' hockey players, and either not interested or don't feel welcome?

I know when my daughter was on the boys side we did not get girls side information from the association. Communication isn't the best in most associations. Also the MNH program is new and a lot of kids didn't tryout because of fall sports and they were doing the peewee challenge Tryouts are also cranking up this weekend who knows. There is plenty of time for the hp stuff in the spring. ]

Grace or Gracie Johnson is playing for district 3 HP and is an 01. Played MM and Hopkins PWA so was able to do HP vs exclusive MM players.

Nicholson & Skelton are 02's.

Heard Burton was not at HP for D3.

No idea on Deliandis and HP. Heard she is an 01.

I am very familiar with 2 of the teams and have slightly above average familiarity for two more. A few of these teams have as many as 6-8 alternates as a lot of top talent declined. Some of that was schedule conflicts, some didn't want to shell out the $300+ for an event that doesn't lead to HP camp and are holding out for spring, a couple questioning coach selections, and a little physical and wallet fatigue after overwhelming off season tourneys - including last weekend. I'm going to start another thread for discussion on these games and girls out of the challenge commentary. That was so last weekend...

I predict mostly close games with a couple districts getting blown up with large numbers of 21-30 skaters.
