What is your personal favorite high school hockey game? It can be a regular season game, section, tournament, or state tournament game.

My favorite is the 1999 Section 3AA final between Hill-Murray and Roseville. Both teams played a fast paced, hard hitting game exchanging goals back and forth. But real reason why it’s my favorite is because of the final goal. With 28 seconds left Dan Miller gave a saucer pass (over a Roseville defender) to Joe Kaufman. Kaufman redirected the puck out of midair into the net which won Hill-Murray the game and a trip to state.

<img src=

Elk River and Centennial last year when centennial played at Elk River and Andrew Malzahn scored the game winning goal. The glass by the student section almost shattered because of all of the cheering bodies falling on it. They had to put up a fence to keep students off of the fence and it's been named "Malzahn's Fence" I loved that game.

Back in the day of Harrington and Schwartz (I believe it was 1999.) for Apollo they had an amazing team. They battled in with a Roseau for the section 8AA championship at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. Roseau only had 1 loss that year. Apollo nearly ended it, but Harrington (I believe) took a shot that hit off the crossbar. Roseau eventually won in overtime and won the state tourney.

A great section final game.

A recent game was just this past tuesday when Sauk Rapids played St. Cloud cathedral with SCC winning 2-1. It was one of the best examples of high school hockey that i've ever seen.
2A

Anyone of the Section 8AA finals that ER had against Moorhead. I was just a little guy back then, but I can still feel the pain.

Although I will say 2001 State Championship game helped to ease some of that <img src=

My favorite game. Hmm.

2002 7AA semi-finals at the DECC. #4 Grand Rapids vs. #1 Cloquet. Tied 2-2 after 2. Rapids won 5-2 with and e.n.

A close second is the year before at Greenway early in the year the Raiders were ranked #1 in the state. Greenway had swept Rapids like 6 or 7 years in a row. Brian Wickstrom scored in OT to win it 4-3 for Rapids. Matt Miskovich had two nice goals, one shorthanded on a breakaway.

Moorhead V Warroad 2005

The Moorhead and Warroad game last year that was played in Moorhead. Two undefeated giants facing off against each other in a game that had been hyped all year long and it certainly didn't dissapoint. Ended in a 1-1 tie with two very dramatic goals, Warroad's coming at the very end of regulation, after a premature Spudie celebration. I have witnessed a lot of amazing hockey games, but the way these two teams battled amongst the atmosphere that was that building on that night brings chills up and down my spine every time i think about it.
Play another sport if ya dont got what it takes to DangleMcFangle.

1995 Class AA state title game. Spehar. Penalty shot. Hounds beat the Spuds 5-3, giving them their first state title in 35 years. It was a nite which was beyond sweet for me.

A close second was in the same tournament, East ending the Jefferson dynasty with a 5-0 pasting in the quarterfinals.

Lee
____________
Message Board arsonist since 2005

Has to be Duluth east vs. Apple Valley in 5OT. There is no doubt that his is the best game ever played in the history of Minnesota High School Hockey. Any close playoff game is also really fun to watch.

Cloquet vs. Hill-Murray, state quarters in '92. Every cities paper and every announcer during the game couldn't WAIT for the HM/Jefferson semi-final game that was SURE to happen because, hey, who's Cloquet? Cloquet wins 5-3 with an en goal...this was the year of the two Godbout brothers for HM, and of course, Dutch "we swear that's his real name" Barrett in nets for Cloquet

How about maple grove and elk river last year to go to state. went into ot and maplegrove gets off a nice one-timer. i thought the game was done for sure but sam warhol made possibly the greatest save i'd ever seen. Then Jake Koehler gets on a breakaway from the game winner. It was deffinetly a game to remember.

Majin Hockey, that Cloquet team was outstanding and fun to watch. I'd say my favorite was Cloquets next game against Jefferson, in which Jefferson beat Cloquet in overtime 5-4. Cloquet scored in the last minute of the 2nd and the first minute of the 3rd for a two goal lead. Jags scored twice in the third, including one in the last minute to force ot. Amazing game by Cloquet's goalie Dutch Barrett (over 40 saves, closer to 50 maybe), and a great squad including Jesse Bertogliat (sp?) and Jamie Langenbrunner. Great game at the start of the Jefferson run; the team had some great seniors including Dan Trebil and Tim Krug, as well as the younger guys. Also still had Joe Pankratz as a sophomore.

I wanted to pick the CEC/Jefferson tilt, but man, at least they beat HM. Yeah, Jefferson was loaded. Pankratz, Crowley was a sophomore I think, Cort Lundeen (my personal favorite hockey name), Bianchi, Mr Hockey Nick Checho, however me and my co-horts personal Jefferson favorite that year was none other than (i believe) Brandon Peterson. Don't ask why...you wouldn't understand.

My favorite game would either be when Cloquet beat Rapids 5-1 in the playoffs last year or when Cloquet beat East 1-0 in the finals in 2002. East was dominant that year.

Moorhead vs Elk River in 1994. I think it went 2 or 3 overtimes. Lots of breakaways, posts, and big saves. Standing room only at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud.

Cinderella team of 00-01 spuds beating white bear in OT in the quarterfinals, and then the next night beating greenway in OT in the semis....and then the embarrassing 8 to 1 loss to greenway, but what a fun couple of games

KnightTimes-
The Spuds did play well, but the Elks were very unfortunate in that game. I remember Woody Glines(sorry if i spelled his name wrong), hit at least two post.
