There will be early exits, critical for a lot of teams.

Without any info on early departures threads like this are useless.

For those that didn't see it. Wish him luck. Really too bad for MN high school hockey fans that didn't get to see him play.

Even if malmquist ends up leaving Edina still has to be odds on favorite. So much youth, depth and many good bantams coming up. Look for bellows to have a breakout year. After them I think Wayzata will be very tough with freytag, Zimmer and Sorensen. LN will be back in the run again next year. Poehlings will likely stay and the only one I think likely to leave early is mcneely. They also have some nice bantams coming. Boeser, like wahlin is likely gone and that will crush burnsvilles chances in my opinion. Of course you always have to account for HM, DE, EP and BSM.

Here's my 2 cents about next year...
1. Malmquist is the deciding factor at Edina. He has been their backbone for 3 years now, and I think if he leaves, they will struggle more than expected. Still a fantastic team with lots of depth.
2. What Lakeville did this year was amazing, but as we saw in the ship yesterday, they have a lot of maturing to do. Teams will be much more prepared to shut the Poehlings down. We should see them back at the X next year.
3. I think Wayzata was the best shot to knock off Edina this year, too bad they laid an egg against BSM. We all know their defense will be tops in the state, but if they continue to struggle in the offensive end, it could be another early exit next year. With not a whole lot of talent coming through the system, this could be the "all in" year for Wayzata.
Blaine and Eden Prairie will have rebuilding seasons. Hill Murray will be good as always. It could finally be Burnsville's year in 2AA.
I believe next year will be as wide open as ever. Should be fun!

Before the season started:
Champion Hornets 2010 lost Everson, Lee, Gaarder, Baker and Regan.
Champion Hornets 2013 lost Louie Nanne and Jack Walker.
Champion Hornets 2014 lost Hurley, Jordahl, Reno, Nelson, Anderson, Benjamin among other regular seniors.
It seems that absorbing players graduating/leaving has been a tolerable situation for Edina.

I know its a cliche but the hornets don't rebuild they truly just reload. With the youth system they have in place it makes it very tough for other publics to compete. No sour grapes here just the bare truth. Its part of the fabric of their community and the culture of winning is deeply rooted. Love them or hate them there is no arguing just how good they have been, are, and will continue to be for some time.

So Wahlin is the first to announce that he is leaving HS hockey early. Will we break 50+ early departures next year or will the numbers start to subside? I am guessing the numbers will continue to grow and the interest and level of play in Minn HS hockey will continue to drop.
As long as there are Jr teams out there they will continue to try and lure the top kids away from Minnesota hockey. I believe the answer lies with the colleges. If they stop asking kids to spend time in Jr hockey then the kids will stay in HS. If they expect them to continue playing a year or two in Jr's then this trend will continue to accelerate IMO.

Stillwater could be good in the coming years. I've been hearing their AA bantam team could be their way into a consistent state tournament team.

Did NOT know Blaine was losing that many seniors. But those are good teams, only team I disagree with is BSM, very weak goaltending
