Section 1A Final: #1 New Prague vs. #2 Mankato West

A rematch of a 2-1 New Prague win, these two 1A rivals face off with the right to represent 1A at the State Tournament. Mankato West has won fourteen straight since the defeat. New Prague has finished strong as well, going 12-2-1 in that span.

Can the gritty, hardworking Trojans knock off the fast, high scoring Scarlets again?

Well these two teams make for a very interesting matchup. They play completely opposite styles of hockey. NP is going to work hard and play tough, physical, defensive hockey. They also have a very good goaltender. MW plays high flying fast scoring hockey. They have a ton of offensive talent. Both their forwards and D-Men move the puck extremely well and light the lamp often.

That being said, I believe MW is a better all-around team. However, this certainly did not show in the 1st matchup. MW will need to do a better job in round 2. They will need to find ways to play their game and not let NP slow them down to the extent that they did last time. Also, MW will need to avoid dumb penalties and pick up their intensity.

My prediction: MW wins 4-1 with an EN.

Good analysis on why you think NP wins 3-2.

If Chris Lonke is still the head coach at New Prague I will predict they win, he took a little better than average Simley team to the State A Championship in 2003..and almost beat a TJ Oshie led Warroad team..good coach.

I remember that game! Remember when that simley kid got Smashed at center ice, then tried to skate to the bench. He thought he made it! Except he was on the wrong side of the ice. What a doozie!

Lonke did have a good game plan in the first meeting between these two, clearly. West was outworked and wasn't tough enough to compete. They've got a crazy amount of talent, but it won't mean anything unless they're willing to compete with the level of effort and intensity that New Prague will bring.

This game is such a toss up for me..I feel like West could win by a few goals, but also feel that West just may not be suited to match up with a team like New Prague, who can grind their way to victory.

I think it may come down to goaltending and staying out of the box for the Trojan's, the effort will not be a question for either team!
NP 4-3 OT.

The game where the Simley player went to the penalty box thinking it was the bench was actually In the semi's vs Roch Lourdes. Josh Duncan crushed him.

NP 4-3 OT.
The New Prague homer himself picks the Trojans outright! Who would've guessed?

NP will be in the box too much, they have no discipline.
On the other hand their goalie is good.

MW is my pick.

He's probably just mad because his beloved Stars can no longer compete.
