Has anyone else heard that minnesota hockey has done away with all district and regional playoffs for BAA, and they are seeding top teams for state.

Make matters worse, the powers that be are moving Wayzata, Maple Grove, and Owatonna BAA into D 6 this year. So D6 BAA will look like this--EP, Edina, Prior Lake, Minnetonka, Wayzata, Maple Grove, Bloomington Jefferson, CCHA, and Owatonna. Only 4 can make it out of that district. Makes sense to me Minnesota Hockey. Why don't you throw Elk River and Stillwater in just for good measure.

No d6 playoffs for AA teams. Owatonna added at AA levels for this season. Regionals will still take place.

They should force D2 and D10 to do the same...would make for a few good AA leagues. D2 has only 4 designated AA teams (FL, WBL, Stillwater, Roseville)...with MV and Tartan opting down. They should play with the A teams if they want. Sounds like Andover wants to opt down in Bantams (at least that was mentioned on the forum somewhere) which leaves Centennial, ER, Blaine...who else? Anoka? CP? Others doing AA or not?

there are some AA teams that declare based on the size of thier school system. However talent level does not warrent them to be AA.

So let's examine the absurdity of this: D6 will now have 10 AA teams (gorilla you forgot Burnsville). D8 looks like 8 teams, D10 4-6 (is CP going AA?. Is Irondale and SF co-oping again?), D2 four teams, D5 four teams. And you're gonna pull 23 teams from those 30-32 (assume Rochester gets a flyer out of D9 and the north teams are locked). I'm just wondering... disregard the idea that OMG and Wayzata are powerhouses... how can you take only four teams out of ten? To be fair, I'd think it should be seven (23/32 = 70%). Six from D8, 3-4 form D10 and 3 from D2 & D5.

All AA D2 associations were for but Roseville, and they were the deciding vote. (Single A teams were against it as well)

The AA teams out of D10 will be Blaine, Centennial, Champlin, Anoka and Elk River. Irondale and St Francis are co-oping again and I believe they were granted to play at the A level.

I thought voting was done by a weighted vote based on association size ? if Roseville was the only one voting no? there should have been another 7 - 9 teams voting Yes ? had to be other factors then unless they were looking for 100% support ?

D6 will have 7 teams at the AA levels plus Owatonna making 8 total. Kennedy/Richfield, New Prague, Shakopee and Waconia do not have AA teams.

But, isnt it the case where the teams are going to be ranked 1-24 going into the Region tournaments and then broken up according to where they were seeded and then 2 seeds from each Region will go to the State tournament? So, for argument's sake, Edina is ranked as the top seed out of D6 at the BAA level and Eden Prairie is ranked #2 and then maybe Wayzata is ranked #3. Is it not the case then that Edina would go to the South Region, EP to the East and Wayzata to the West?

I hope I'm wrong but we were told OmG and Wayzata were joining D6. Also told that only four teams would come out of D6. Saveforcollege is this wrong? If it is where is Wayzata and OMG ending up?

Here is what we learned that came out of D6 on Monday night. We also spoke to MNH yesterday and there are no plans to change this year's Regional format.

gorilla: unless the selection process has changed, i don't see in the MNHockey regulations anything about limiting the number of teams one district can have in the region tournaments. The North is doing its own Region with Ds 11, 12, 15 & 16. Each North District will send 2 teams to its 8-team Region. The other three Regions will be comprised of the top-24 teams from Ds 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, & 10, with each of the 24 seeds being assigned to a certain Region (#1 in South, #2 East, #3 West, etc, etc). So, hypothetically, if the District Directors and Bantam AA coaches, who are doing the selecting feel that 7 of the top-24 teams are in D6, then so be it. The only stipulation is that each District's #1 seed is guaranteed a spot in the top-24. Again, this is how i understand it unless the process has been changed.

Got a DM this am that my story may have a flaw or two on Rochester. He says Rochester is fielding a AA team at both Bantam AA and PeeWee AA.

I have a call into Tom C, the DD at D9.

In other words, there is more to this story.

Deep Breath is right. There has not been a change in the system for Regions that was approved in June.
