Elite League Leading Non-Commits

This weekend marks the halfway point in the leagues 20 game schedule. Wondering who forum readers think will be the next to commit among scoring leaders since 7 of the 10 havent signed anywhere yet. Top ten scoring leaders are listed below points first then name - year and school. Novak, Wahlin, Sheehy have already signed though Sheehy supposedly backed out as long as he has already signed once we'll put him in signed group.

22 X Tommy Novak - Signed U of M

19. Nick Swaney (soph) Lakeville S

19. X Sheehy - Signed

15. X Wahlin - Signed Umass

13. Willie Brown (sr) Hill Murray

13. Brandon Notterman (sr) Blaine

12. Johnny Panvica. (sr) Jefferson

12. Cullen Munson. (sr) Edina

12. Mitch Slattery. (sr) Hill Murray

11. Carter Roo. (jr) Benilde St-M

Swaney is a big suprise this year after scoring 25 points for Lakeville but I think that tells a lot about how great Novak is as a playmaker. The other names on the list are no suprise though missing are such as Malmquist, Spinner, Naas, Cline, Yon & Strand and on and on but thats a different issue. Interested in who the forum thinks will hit the dotted line from the Top 10 list. Convrrsation= Anyone know if any of these kids on list are talking with schools or close to signing?

Sheehy did decommit from OSU.

Technically, none of them have "signed" yet. They've just given verbal commitments. :)

correct.

You are correct that it is just a verbal commit not a signing. I have been suprised by how many non MN schools we have heard as being active like Notre Dame in particular. Anyone else think things seem eerily quite from BSU or SCSU and Mankato. Mankato signed Hunter Warner but that was last year. Maybe I just havent been hearing about commits to Mn schools but they usually show up somewhere including here.

Does it have to do with them waiting longer since the USHL is a given for most kids so schools take more time to evaluate. They snap up the stars fairly early but the next tier including some of the kids mentioned here are in limbo for longer? Are the dynamics changing in recruiting? Any rumors even about some of these Elite Leaders or top guys talked about as being missing from leaderboard? Think Naas or Cline or Slattery or Brown would at least have conversations going with a few schools.

You're somewhat correct. Many schools focus some of their recruiting on 20 year olds. A lot can happen between 16 years old and 20.

Munson is very good. I think a lot of people "lost him in the shuffle" so to speak with all the talent and "names" at Edina last year. Look for him to have a huge HS season. The Swaney kid from Lakeville South is gonna be a really good HS player too.

I think we are missing the point of this topic...it is the same as several elite league topics this fall...including some locked and thrown away...but with every new user name comes a chance to pump the tires of a senior to be at HM :)

Embarrassingly, the reason SCSU hasn't picked up too many Minnesota HS kids recently is because many that they've offered have said no. Even so, they've got Lindgren starting this year (though he committed from the USHL) as well as Judd Peterson and Jimmy Schuldt waiting in the wings. They also received a commitment from Jacob Benson of Red River.

The case isn't much different than it was in the past, just that many of the Minnesota recruits that SCSU snagged worked out really well. Brodzinski, Prochno, LeBlanc, Hanowski, and Lee all turned out way better in college than most anticipated at the time of their commitments (with the debatable exception of Hanowski). Most of the remaining players recruited in those years were NOT from Minnesota (or were not in the MSHSL at the time of their commitments).

I have no idea who SCSU might be looking at from the MSHSL at this point. All I know is that there are two remaining Schuldt brothers who are both Husky fans and two remaining Brodzinski brothers who take after Jonny more than Michael. There's got to be a reasonable chance that at least one of those four will be SCSU caliber at some point. I guess we'll see.

P.S. On a side note, there's a new thing that I think could really help SCSU with outstate recruits, and I'm not referring to the remodeled arena. The school just launched a 24 hour HD sports channel on Charter. The games were all shown on Charter previously, but the HD and the extended coverage will create a great viewing alternative for the young hockey fans at home. I think the channel will offer really professional looking productions that should make an impression on outstate players watching over the course of several years.

One player has already fallen off the top ten quite quickly. Playing better teams has halted the players scoring aspect. The names listed above that are not listed in the top ten have more ability than a few listed so to jump to conclusions would be an inaccurate statement. Yon, Strand, Spinner and Naas have proven to be more dominant even though they are not in the top ten list

Four weeks into league play and we already have online posturing, coaxing and bantering such as this? Go figure. Pointwise, much can happen/change in a 3 game stretch or over the next 4 weeks. And don't forget about the HS season ahead. Guess we'll have to check in during the weeks ahead for exciting updates as to who has risen or fallen off the top 10 "quite quickly". Puleeze. And as for the origin of this particular thread, Sk8 Str8 is on (spot on) to something.

With the exception of Novak, I don't think there is a player who impacts his team and brings more to the table than Spinner. His battle/compete level is through the roof, not to mention his skillset is superb. UNO will be happy with him, no doubt.

Agree with this is somebody's pumping a kid who got off to a fast start. Remember some teams have played a softer schedule or caught a team with a goalie that was on or off or on a day a team was missing a couple of true top players. I'll save my vote for the end of the season and will consider a write in for a kid that doesn't pile up the Gs & As.

That was my point and I may have used the wrong verbage in my earlier post. The topic mainly pertains to the top 10 players at that point of the season which obviously eliminates players that will commit before them. Naas and Spinner are definitely better than the player listed in the top ten who is being plugged

That was a list of uncommitted Elite League scoring leaders, right? No love for the best Elite League blue-liners?

Heard that Wolff is getting a lot of interest from some of the other B1G programs.

I know Bemidji State likes going after the older players that have had some seasoning in the junior leagues.

The Beavers did just get a verbal from hometown boy Jordan Heller who is playing with Aberdeen in the NAHL this year.
