USA Hockey National Championships

What is the history of MN Hockey not participating in the USA Hockey National Championships. I understand MN Hockey has decided to use different age group cutoffs which is why MN Hockey does not participate. I recently read in some hockey publication that the USAHockey National Championships bring in millions of tourism dollars to the host city. Wouldn't one of the Twin Cities venues like to see these millions of tourism dollars? Are egos getting in the way of helping support the MN economy? MN may have the only governor with a hockey background yet we don't have national amateur championships.

National Championships in Pittsburgh were absolutely incredible this year. The '98 AAA level had Shattuck St. Marys up against Honeybaked in the Championship game with HB winning it in 2 OT. Lakeville's Edquist and Lingren were fantastic and represented Minnesota well.

from what I've been told by our DD, any team can register to go to nationals. Just need to submit registration in November. MH will not submit any teams. It's very expensive. It is done over 4 or 5 days, not a weekend like regions or state. So you are looking at travel fees and hotels and meals for 4-5 days

Yes, this was covered on another recent thread.

The Old Guarde says that it's very expensive and compared to the tourneys we are used to here in Minnesota, rather anti-climactic -- i.e. mostly just immediate family can make it to nationals, whereas in Minnesota the whole association plus high school varsity and extended families, not to mention Fred61 and his retinue, might show up to watch post-season play. (I saw western regions for PWA and PWB, as well as state for both, and the buildings were packed.)

That all said, it would have been pretty cool if Edina PWAA had put together an itinerary -- even though they kinda did when they went to Michigan and beat some of the best.

This just reminds me that in Minnesota, hockey is a rich person's sport. Everywhere else in the US, it's a filthy rich person's sport.
