We will miss you Jodi.
After battling cancer for as long as we can remember.
Always there, always brave, Cheering for everyone and always Cassie's biggest fan.
Never complained to us about anything.
Thank you for your support and never judging.
The perfect Hockey MOM for a coach. The perfect Hockey Goalie MOM for our teams. So Happy we were able to share so much of your daughters time with you.
Again we will miss you.

THE GOALIES MOM

I wait.
The pit in my gut is deep.
I feel sick.
My heart is in my throat -
It gives me life,
Yet I struggle to breathe.
I look up at the clock,
Time ticks away.
I close my eyes,
Deep inhale,
Count four.
Slow exhale,
Count four.
I will the nausea to go away,
It is impossible to relax.

How will I survive the next two hours
In this hockey rink?
What will the outcome be?
No one knows.
Worry is futile.
I feel cold.

I will know as soon as I see her,
Her body language will tell me -
Here she comes,
She skates out hard and fast!
The cage masks her face,
Her body tells me
She is eager, she is focused.

She scratches the ice in the crease.
She warms up,
Moving with ease and precision,
Her reflexes are quick.

The whistle blows.
The puck drops.
I take a deep breath.
In a split second the opposition breaks away
Two on none.
The skilled forward bursts out with speed -
She fakes a shot,
Fakes a pass,
Deeks
She shoots!!!
I can't breathe!

The whistle blows
And my daughter skates away from the net...

...With the puck in her glove.

She looks toward me.

I breathe again.

She tosses the puck around in her glove
Reassuringly,
Then gives it over to the linesman,
When she's ready.
She is in the zone.

Win or lose
She will play a good game.
I relax.

Until the next game.
