Team Bus Rule?

A Farmington boys hockey Freshman player missed the team bus at the high school last Saturday. The coach called the kid and had the bus go to the freshman's house to pick him up.
I'd say this is a good save on coach Keith Revels part because I have heard that if a kid doesn't travel on the team bus to the visiting location, that the kid cannot play. I'd be interested in thoughts on this rule/incident.

Why would any team bus go and pick up a player?
He should either not play, if he gets there, or have to sit a period. Or maybe just give the kid the State trophy and move on. No responsibility to get there on time. What happens when he gets a job? Oh I am sorry you are late for work, I will send a driver to make sure you are on time.
I heard recently about a player who overslept taking a nap on game day and missed the team bus, but lived right by the arena they were playing at that night. He drove to the game and ended up sitting the first period even though he was there when the team arrived and was ready to go when they were.

Anyone ever think for a second it could have been his parents fault. I noticed he was only a freshman. Sometimes a kid shouldn't be punished if mom and dad made a mistake. This could have just been a transportation issue.

Why would any team bus go and pick up a player?
Maybe he had a good reason for not being there?
Outside of the coach making that decision, how would anyone else be able to base a reasonable decision with no detail?

Why would they pick them up.
In todays world, unless you are democrat, there are costs involved and the schools should not be responsible to use the schools resources to go and provide curb service.
As far as the parent, when you join a team it is your responsibility to follow the rules as they are laid out. When they are broken there are consequences. If we keep letting kids use excuses then they will never learn. Sitting out a period is not going to send them into a downward spiral and if it is the parents fault, then maybe the parents will learn, but in today's "entitlement" environment everybody should get their way and not be held accountable for any actions. Look at the Tuesday night declaration and you will see it first hand by the almighty....

C'mon goph, what's your agenda here. Lets trash Ftown? The coaches? I'm guessing if Besse missed the bus, Pauly would find a way to pick him up. And yes it was a freshman so lets keep his name out of it. The only thing going on in Farmington is a bunch of crybaby players and parents pouting and acting like idots because their kids aren't getting a chance to play. I'm sorry but that's life. Be a role model and teach your kid a life lesson, and yes I've experienced both, one son that was passed over and one that was not. Act like adults.

Seriously? Why are we bashing a kid without knowing all the facts? Consequences? The child is perhaps 13 or 14 years, perhaps he is the hardest working kid on the team and deserves a break? Maybe he has been practicing with both JV and Varsity, doing 8 hours of school and over slept out of exhaustion.
Maybe not...we don't know all we know is an adult made an exception. I would bet there is not a person on this board that has not "granted" (or been granted) some sort of exception to some "deserved" consequences.

Zamman - though i have grown to respect your opinion and almost all of the time agree with your input, this time i dont think you could be more wrong. the kid is a freshman...FRESHMAN!!!! you cant use the "what happens if it was his job" analogy. the kid is 14 maybe 15 years old, lets cut him a little slack on this one. personally, i think the fact that the coach brought the bus to his house is 1) pretty awesome in showing what being a team is and even thought the freshmen maybe made a mistake, they dont want to leave him behind and 2) embarrassment enough that the kid, assuming it is his fault, learned his lesson.

You know what? The whole crap going on in Farmington is one of a very few reasons I find as positives for NOT being in hockey. Who cares if the stupid bus picked him up? As long as its a good reason to miss it, and everyone would get the same treatment...which begs another argument I know.

And since the thread on the goalie is locked because this thread was created here are a few points IMO
If acting the way he did is A catalyst for changing something that really is messed up, good for Farmington hockey.
If this is A spoiled child acting out..shame on the parents.
If the kid is proud and has no regrets, awesome for him. As long as he won't regret it later.
This thing likely is not nearly as well known without modern technology and social networking.
More of these incidents have probly happened in the past, but haven't been as big a deal without the advantages of our numerous ways to video tape thing, our numerous ways to network , and the incredible accessibility we have now in getting info out ( wireless devices and networks. Bashing all of that is NOT my point.
In the end if this helps hockey shed some of it's well known but less talked about BS, then GREAT. If this kid really had issues and this falls between the cracks... shame on those in charge.
If this was just a teenager acting out, he has his punishment, and hopefully it can rest...
