Why would District 16 teams be eliminated from the Region? I was under the impression that if your association elected to go double a they would automatically go to the AA region?

Why would 10 get 5. 2 gets only 3 ?? 6 makes sense getting more. In fact if any district gets five it should be 6. This is a interesting year/experiment.

It's moronic... The best teams once again will not get to the show. Need to adapt a better system.

If this is true, then once again you will have 6 high end teams from 3 regions... and 2 bottom end teams from the south region.

West has the top of D10 and D3 and D15.. and only two will come out of it. We will loose 3 top 15 in state teams from this region

East has top of D2 and D6 and D8.... and only two will come out of it. We will loose at least 4 top 15 teams in the state

The North has top of D16, D11 and D12. and only two will come out of it. We will loose another 2 top 15 teams.

And then there is the south...Rochester ..... and then the left overs from other districts... so we will not have a top 15 team in that region.

If they want a quality state tourney they can't be afraid to make some teams travel a bit for regions. I know the coaches and teams would be happy to make the trips if it meant not having to play EP, Edina, Burnsville in a weekend to get to a state tourney

So the trick is how to be #4 seed in your District

This is as clear as mud.. why were some teams moved from AA and some weren't?.. Hermantown and EgF both opted for AA but egf was only team that got bumped....mark,any answer to this?

I get our point,I really do, but I think there is a misconception that only the best teams deserve one of the 8 spots at the state tournament. The "state tournament" is not just the final weekend tournament but rather each tournament that leads to the final game. The only way you could ever make it that way would be by seeding the top 8 or 16 teams like the NCAA does. In that scenario you would pretty much need to make it a single elimination tournament and MH would never send a team traveling potentially several hours to to only play one game. Other than that, if you truly want to find the "best" teams in the state tournament than you have to have multiple game series amongst seeded teams like the NHL, AHL etc. I would find it hard to believe that Minnesota Hockey would ever do such a thing. Even USA hockey's National tournament is based on regional play downs. I guess the way I see it is, what does it matter if the eventual champion has its toughest competition in the final game or before. No matter what system they use there is problems. I certainly don't think the different ranking systems are a good way to do it. IMHO, the criteria used to rank teams is too flawed to use for determining a youth hockey playoff and i think it could be too easily manipulated by individuals. At the core of Minnesota Hockey is its community based roots...the current playoff structure is quite simply a product of that. Yes, district 6 is arguably the toughest one in the state, but that is their community and thus that is where their playoffs begin. If you ask me they should go back to the system used before they started rotating districts to different regions every year. I would love to see Minnesota Hockey follow what the MSHSL does and have 8 districts (sections) based on geography, allow the associations to seed their teams and have a playoff where each district sends a champion to the state tournament. At least in that scenario it mimics the high school hockey model that Minnesota is trying to hang on to so desperately. Otherwise, if we aren't trying to make high school hockey the pinnacle then MH should consider going to follow USA Hockey from the age groups to the adm and everything else they do. Like it or not, the top 8 teams on most years may be out of the metro but it's not Metro Hockey, it's Minnesota Hockey and until that changes they are going to want the entire state represented the best they can.

I flip flop on this topic.

Part of me wants the top 32 to make regions and seed them more like an NCAA BB tourney.

For example, if Minnetonka were the 2 seed of 32 and say Edina was 1 - Tonka would go out west for their regional and play their first game against #31,meanwhile Edina would stay nearest home and play #32 and so on.

Each district is guaranteed 2 entries (so hibbing as #32 for example would play Edina #1 this year in the first round of PWAA in cottage grove). This way you get statewide participation and the best teams.

The other part of me likes how Hermantown did it last year. They best elk river and centennial in regions to make it to state. Took care of biz vs STMA or MAML (can't remember which as I type this) and then beat EP to make it to the finals. What a great story! They were more than worthy of that final #2 ranking: they beat ER and Cent (one won Edina and one won Moose) then they beat EP (who just beat LVS) - that is a great run.

In my NCAA scenario that probably doesn't happen.

Hence the flip flop

Anything for PW A & Bantam A regional seedings?

My feeling on this is you can keep the A tourney the same as it has been, with statewide representation and everything equal. The AA tourney should be seeded so that the top teams are spread out in the regions.

If one district has 4 of the top 5 teams in the state, they should not all be in the same region, and if a district has 1 or zero top teams, they should not get a easy path in a weak region.

The AA pilot should be different than the A tourney, but a few of the DD from the north and week districts want it the same so their teams get a easy path to state.

Mn Hockey should do this right and seed the AA regions so you get the better teams to state because I think that is what the coaches, players and parents want to see.

The way the current regionals are set up is a total joke. The teams in D6 will throw playoff games to finish 4th so they can go to the other region. Way to go MN Hockey, make everything equal not fair.

Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth, which is not much.

If you are d6 #3 you get d2 #1
If you are d6 #4 you get d5 #3

It gets better

If you are d8#2 yout get d6 #1
If you are d8 #5 you get d10#2, meanwhile d3 #2 gets d10#1

For fun here is what PWAA would look like:

D63= prior lake vs D21= white bear
D64= EP vs D53 = buffalo

Meanwhile

D82 = Eastview plays d61 = Edina
D85 = Hastings plays d102 = ER
And get this D32 = OMG plays D101=centennial

There is going to be some tanking to avoid d82 and d63...I've already heard from 4 people today - saying that this can't be right.
