Minnetonka (AA) and Warroad (A). The rest of the state will be playing for second.

Agree with Warroad. BSM will challenge Tonka for section title. I would expect these two teams to be ranked 1 & 2 all year long...

With BSM & Tonka both in 6AA, it has to be the toughest section in the state. Other 6AA teams include top 20 Buffalo, Wayzata, Hopkins & Maple Grove.

WBL will be middle of the pack this year. They lost 10+ seniors with 6 of them being in their top 7 for scoring. Unfortunately, it will take a year or two for them to rebuild. BUT, they do have an excellent returning goalie!

I doubt Hill-Murray is the 6th best team. They will be top 20 I think, but top 10 this year may be a little much. Granted they should be a lot more balanced now that Hannah Brandt has moved on to dominating the college game. I sure will be interested to see how HM starts this season.
Is Irondale going to be decent this year? Thought they had a player that is a senior (former Park Center coach's daughter) who was really good.

Sparlimb,
Irondale graduated Gillian McDonald in the nets and 2D. PC coaches' daughter is a junior and they are looking stronger up front. Have had 4 scrimmages Anoka, Blaine Shakopee and Rogers and scored 17 and allowed 6. They are looking better than expected for a young team. The goaltending has been a pleasant surprise in the scrimmages. Only 2 seniors on the team and both at D. Granted it is just scrimmages and I didn't see Menke and Hepenshide for Shapokee and Blair Parent of Anoka was injured.
As for the top 20 it will change quite a bit from these rankings. I guess they have to start somewhere.

I think pre-season rankings in HS girls hockey is pretty tough to get correct. Most people who do the voting haven't watched enough JV or 14U hockey to know what teams have coming in. These are based mostly on last years results IMO.

Drop St. Paul United out of the top 20, and certainly from #10, as they just lost to #36 Holy Angels.

Interesting that two of the top 5 teams lost to unranked teams on Tuesday.

Well, actually AV was ranked last week but was rewarded for their win at Edina by being dropped from the rankings.

Yes, very interesting indeed, especially since each game involved a member of the South Suburban Conference upsetting a Lake Conference team. I was also wondering how in the heck Apple Valley gets dropped out of the Top 20, after toppling Edina Tuesday night? In the previous week they were tied for the 20th spot, yet their reward for beating No. 3 is to no longer be ranked? Must be their loss to then #7AA Lakeville South the previous Thursday, although AV did bounce back from that to beat Rosemount 3-1 on Saturday.
And then there is #5AA Wayzata's loss to unranked Eastview. Coming into that game Eastview was just 1-5, with their only win coming against unranked Farmington. But in their other games they were very competitive, losing by just a single goal to some good teams including Lakeville South and Eagan. So it had to be a big morale booster for them to get a big win against one of the state's top-ranked teams.
What can you say, other than results like these make the game that much more interesting to follow?

Sort of, I think the voting is done after the weekend action and before tuesday action. When the rankings are posted it's typically after the Tuesday games, however the rankers don't have those results when voting, from what I understand of the system.

Didn't Cretin beat #5 Roseville too. I understand AV-Edina, as the polls are done I believe Tuesday by the coaches.

Yes, good catch. It was 3-2 in OT last Thursday, one that should be reflected in this week's poll. But yet the Raiders go from #5 to #4.
I guess with almost everyone getting upset it's difficult to rank the teams from #3 to #10.

Rankings are due by noon on Wednesday. Most people don't take nearly enough time to do the rankings correctly. This shows they really don't mean anything.

What to do, then. Krach isn't quite mature enough this early in the season to be accurate, but I agree that most coaches don't take sufficient time to do as quality of a job as they should.
