Just checked which players are leading the Elite League in points, and found that as a group they are much smaller in stature than one would expect. They certainly don't fit the mold of "bigger, stronger, faster" that you hear about so much these days. Maybe just "faster" applies here...

Anyway of the nine players who have reached 20 points or more, only one (Bo Brauer) is listed as being taller than 5"10" and heavier than 175 lbs. Not counting Brauer, the other eight AVERAGE just 5'8", 161 lbs.

Not taking anything away from anybody here, and in fact I think it's great that smaller guys can still excel at the Elite League level. But I have to say that I was surprised to see so many smaller guys doing so well, and so I thought I would post this...

Maybe smaller skaters putting up pts says sumthin bout elite -- and how guys play in that league v. for their school -- and not as much bout the players. i'd be interested to hear from people who have watched a decent number of games if dat's a possible factor.

and just in general: what difference is there in style of play in elite versus wut happens in upper-end high school games?

I admittedly haven't watched a ton of games, but I think there is something to this. It only makes sense, really--this league doesn't have much in the way of team practices and is designed to allow players to showcase their skills. That generally makes for a lot more back-and-forth hockey that suits small players. They're not going to be running into many traps or be asked to dump the puck in all that often.
