The article covers the Burnsville Scott Benedict Memorial Thanksgiving Classic. The three tourneys hosted by the Blaze (Bantam A, Peewee A and Squirt A) are full. The article does a pre-season summary of the teams entered.

We are trying to cover at least 10 tournaments like this and will add additional tourneys to the site as soon as possible.

This article is the first article about the Burnsville Tourney, but will not the last about the tournament. Associations are just going through the tryout process and changes will happen. YHH will try to keep track of changes to tourneys we cover. Near tourney time, a preview will be posted and game stories will follow.

The editor is interested to hear from others on tourneys to be covered. The current list has Hopkins Thanksgiving, Eden Prairie First Test of the Best, Burnsville, and Spring Lake Park.

What the associations will do is enter a team and then after tryouts figure out what team to send. Often they will change the team they send more then once. There are only two peewee AA tourneys that I know of right now, Edina and Woodbury. These two associations are also planning a bantam AA and A tourney.

White Bear Lake and Eden Prairie are advertising their tourneys as A and have no plans for a seperate AA. The situation is fluid and confusing to associations, but most associations know by now, that if their high school is AA, then they must get a exemption to play A, That means Winona's association must apply for an exemption from their district to avoid skating AA because they are a AA in high school

Does the same association apply AA or A to their hosted tourney? Should not have to. Edina and Woodbury AA tourneys will be interesting to watch since most of the AA and A level teams will seperated for the tourney, but playing each other the next week in their leagues.

I got word earlier this week that OMGHA is hosting a AA and A Bantam tournament with the winners meeting each other in a "Big vs. Small" showdown.

I don't have all of the details, but I'm pretty sure we will be following this one pretty closely.

That's what we used to do in Tournaments in Quebec, which had community based hockey like here. It was called the Grand Championship, and often pitted the team from a small population (under 20,000) against a large or city(200,000 or more pop.). As a small town ( "A" team) you were playing with house money. Made it very sweet when you won!

From what I have heard, D6 is going with seperate leagues for AA & A at PW and Bantam levels.

With the addition of Osseo Maple Grove at the Squirt A level, the Forest Lake Thanksgiving tourney should be on the list. Tony's #2 and #4 preseason picks (OMG and Andover) are in, along with a couple of other teams he has discussed.

O/mg is a great addition to our first year event!!!!! Where is Rosemount playing ??? {Sq A}

Looks like it's quickly becoming the main Squirt A tournament. Will also be an easier drive for some of the top northern Minnesota squads.

I think they are heading north for the weekend (iron range or something like that - non tourney play)

The Spring Lake Park tourney played Nov 16-18 at Fogerty Ice Arena is posted. Both A and B tourneys are previewed and the impacts of the AA/A split this discussed.
