The Northern wings go 3 &1. Beat the Legacy 5-3. Legacy goes 2 & 2. Legacy moves on Wings don't !! What a joke!!! No I'm not a Leg hater or have a kid on the Wings. Just making a point. It's not right.

Is there any inside info we are not getting here?
That just doesn't seem right...

Not semis but third place. Still Leg moved on and Wings did not.

I hate pool play. It works a lot better to just play straight elimination style like we did as kids. That said, if you don't win all your games you never know what can happen.

OG85 - Not saying it was right but you should get the whole story before you start a thread - Yes the Wings went 3 -1 and did beat the Legacy. The Legacy won 2 of 3 periods. Legacy coaches did NOT pull their goalie late in the game and try to tie the game because they were up 1 - 0 in the 3rd and figured the 2pts they would get for winning the period could be key later in the tournament. Games against common opponents - Legacy beats one team 9 -1 / Wings beat same team 4 - 1 / Legacy beat a team 5 -3 / Wings beat same team 2 -1 / Legacy loses to a team 5 -1 / Wings lose to same team
10 -0. Was not a fan of the point system but there was also a strategy that went into the games. Maybe without the point system the Legacy coaches pull their goalie and tie or even come back to win the game against the Wings. Turns out the Legacy ended up with 2 more points in the end - Good thing they didn't pull the goalie and give up an empty netter - but they also didn't go for tie. It was a double edged sword - You have to play how the tournament is set up.

The point system is odd:
6 points for a win
3 points for a tie
2 points for winning a period (total of 6 points)
1 point for a tied period
1 point for fewest penalties
1 point for a shut-out
(I think that's it)
You gotta just win your games, the 6 points is giant.
I'm pretty sure they want to avoid overtime and don't want to deal with odd tie-breaker problems.

Hfan74- I'm a guy that understands the toury set up. [my pee-wee played in B-vill last t-giving and beat Blaine, but didn't move on because of same]. My point is the set-up sucks! A coach looking out for his team pulls the goalie, that's a different thread. I'm saying if I were involved w/the Wing program I'm not that keen on returning. My opinion!

In looking at the final results I see similar happenings in the '01 level. Miracle Gold and Breakaway both were 3-1 in the win loss standings. In their head to head game Miracle Gold beat Breakaway 6-3 but in the end Breakaway goes to championship game and Miracle Gold ends up in 3rd place game. I believe Miracle Gold had "37 points" to Breakaways "38 points", kind of sucks for Miracle Gold if you ask me. (Disclaimer: no relation at all to the 2001 level or either team whatsoever)

I'm struggling to understand who benefits from this type of scoring scheme. Seriously, can someone explain? In the future I'd try to avoid tournaments like this. It doesn't seem to add any fun to the mix.

It's kind of like when the Vikes had 780 yards Vs N.O. New Orleans wins the game and the Super Bowl, Maybe the Vikes should have moved on.

by This is nuts!
The other negative to the system is watching teams pull their goalie during the first and second period just to win a the two points for the period. Along with coaches shortening the bench during the first and second periods during close games just to win the periods. All negatives.
Should be better ways but all were playing by the same rules.
