If the storm hits Tuesday afternoon like they say, does anyone know if there are plans for this if games get canceled?

hopefully their wrong and it wont be an issue but its looking more and more likely.

Absolutely no plans at all. This never happens in minnesota. Snow is entirely unexpected....

Seriously though, I think most sections say that if a game has to be postponed, it should be made up the next day if possible. I know the MSHSL requires all section finals to be played by Saturday.

With the Gophers hosting Wisconsin Friday, I doubt they'll make Mariucci available Thursday night if 2 & 6 AA get postponed.

seems to me this could be a serious issue. lets keep an eye on it and hope its not as bad as they say.

In 2007, the 2AA & 6AA games were postponed on the Thursday night until Saturday morning. The Gophers had a home series so Friday was out and so was Saturday night, but they got them in, starting early on Saturday morning. I'm guessing that having them on Wednesday night would allow for it to be moved to Thursday night if it has to come to that. Otherwise, Saturday morning is a possibility again, but I'm guessing Thursday night would work at Mariucci, if it has to come to that.

Why not? During the state tournament, consolation games have even been played on the same day as a Gopher home game. I don't think it would be a big deal at all to have them played a whole day before a home Gopher game

Not to mention there is almost always a wild game the next day at the X after the state tournament.... Not sure if that's relevant but still

Depends on the schedule for the Badgers' skate. They usually arrive by bus on Thursday AM. If they can get theirs in early enough I guess it would work to still start these games at 6 PM.

Consolation games will be played next weekend as well when the Gophers are at home for the first round of the WCHA playoffs. It doesn't matter what happens Wednesday - they always find a way to make it work

Sounds like it'll be less of an issue in the Cities tomorrow & Wednesday. Now they're saying it could be more rain/slush than actual snow.

The storm has down graded.

Metro area is projected to get 1" to 3" with a wintery mix. It appears there will be a lot of freezing rain. Wednesday may bring on 1" to 2" of snow.

I am not sure about the Central and Northern regions of MN. Looks like 6" to 10 " some spots. Snow/rain is also in the mix.

If we actually got all of the inflated snow amounts they warned us about we'd break records every year.

If it is postponed, would they likely move it to Saturday? Or would they do two games (5A final also) on Friday?

6AA and 2AA games will be played on Thursday same time same place if postponed. Got this info from the MSHSL facebook page.

Given the forecasts for Duluth, I'd be surprised if the 7A final gets played tomorrow. That could lead to some real scheduling conflicts, with the 7AA final at Amsoil on Thursday and the WCHA womens' tournament on Friday and Saturday. Options would probably include:

-A doubleheader with the 7AA game on Thursday
-Some awkward time early Saturday
-A different venue (Heritage, either along with the 5A final or the next night? Grand Rapids? Cloquet?)

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the area for TONIGHT and WEDNESDAY. Today, Mostly Cloudy, perhaps some light snow developing late in the day. High near 33* Wind East/Southeast 10-20 mph. Snow will be likely tonight and heavy at times with a Low near 27*. The Snow with be tapering to light snow by Wednesday afternoon, but the snow may still be heavy at times tomorrow morning. Total Accumulations of 6-12" in southeastern North Dakota into west central Minnesota, with localized higher totals possible. With a high of 32 on Tuesday and low on Tuesday night of 27 and high on Wednesday of 33.

Sounds like they will try to play the game even if school is canceled tomorrow. They really have no other options with venues and time..

I think you are jumping to conclusions here. It looks to me like most of the heaviest snow fall (7-10')will occur tonight through about 9am tomorrow with an additional 3" possible until 5pm. Then clearing skies.
I would think the game at Amsoil will go on as scheduled.

Storm Headlines:

- This looks like mainly rain for the metro area, a little snow possible at the beginning of the storm today, but most of the 1" of precipitaton forecast to fall on MSP will fall as a cold rain, with a little sleet mixed in at times. Just north/west of the metro I expect more ice and snow. A difference of 20-30 miles will make a huge difference in snowfall amounts. St. Cloud and the Mille Lacs area could still pick up 6"+ or more of snow. It will be that close.

- Precipitation will start as a little snow or sleet today, but quickly change to a cold rain Tuesday afternoon or evening. Surface temperatures should be above 32 F. in the metro Tuesday afternoon, possibly reaching 33 or 34 F, keeping most major roads/freeways wet. Computer models show enough warm air aloft (temperatures > 32 F. about 4,000 to 6,000 feet above the ground) for a period of significant rain or sleet Tuesday night, at the height of the storm. This will keep final snowfall amounts down. For the record, we missed a major snowfall by 1-3 F. It was that close.

- A little slush may fall on the MSP metro area before any changeover, but north/west of a line from Willmar and Monticello to Elk River and Cambridge precipitation may fall as mostly snow. Parts of central Minnesota may see closer to 4-8" snow on Tuesday.

- I could see some big variations just across the metro: an inch of slush southern suburbs, but over 2-4" of sloppy, icy snow over the northern metro, from Elk River to Anoka, Ham Lake and White Bear Lake.

- Forget the calendar; this will be a typical storm for late March. Temperatures hold at or above freezing for much of the storm, so I expect metro freeways to be in fairly good shape. But if you're driving west on I-94 or 10 conditions will get worse as you approach Monticello and St. Cloud. Roads in the Alexandria area may become quite treacherous.

- If the changeover to sleet/rain does not take place, then the MSP metro could still pick up 4-10", but I think this is unlikely, the odds less than 1 in 4.

- A changeover from rain back to wet snow is likely late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, but as dry air surges into southern Minnesota (the dreaded "dry tongue") snow should quickly taper to flurries after lunch on Wednesday. I could see another 1-3" on Wednesday, at the tail-end of the storm.

- Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the Twin Cities (and much of Minnesota) for a mix of snow, ice and rain creating rough travel conditions. This may be overkill (in my humble opinion) with precipitation falling as mostly rain, but roads could be messy for Wednesday morning's commute. If we do see a few hours of freezing rain (glaze ice) secondary roads and bridges (north/west of the metro) could become icy between 2 pm and 8 pm Tuesday, but surface temperatures from 30-34 F. should mean mainly wet/slushy roads for treated roads and freeways.

- Blizzard Watches and Warnings are posted for much of western Minnesota, where no changeover to ice is expected, and travel will become treacherous during the day on Tuesday with snow falling at the rate of 1-2"/hour at times.

- Over a foot of snow, maybe as much as 18", may still accumulate from near Morris and Alexandria to Little Falls, Brainerd and the Duluth area.

For the 7A game in Duluth at Amsoil Wednesday, the schools will decide by 1pm Wednesday to cancel or go on with the show. If they cancel, it will become a Double Header Thursday along with the AA game. They will clear the place out after the A game and you would have to have a ticket for the AA game to re-enter.
