If they were a private school, lots of forum experts would be explaining why they should opt up to AA...

I disagree! Assuming Hermantown makes it to the X, it will be fun to see how they do against the Class A private school powers. I really don't care who wins it; I just want to see good hockey played in both tournaments.

in all honesty i think if there is going to be a section upset, i think it will be hermantown not advancing to the X. with hermantowns scores as of late, i think i rogers or cathedral have an excellent chance to knock them off.

Congrats to Hermantown for running the regular season gauntlet and coming out unscathed. Now for the real games. Would love to see them at the X again.

No they wouldn't because Hermantown is EXACTLY the kind of team that single A hockey is supposed to be about. A good small town hockey program.

That is if Rogers or SCC can find the net, some of Hibbings best shots came with slapshots outside the blueline tonight, anything in the slot with a real opportunity was typically blocked and most shots came from outside. I stood next to Hibbing fans that said the same thing and that when Hermantown was short-handed they looked like they were the team on the power play, as Hibbing rarely got into Hermantowns zone to set-up. Two of Hermantown's goals tonight did come from some tough angles. That being said, the Hibbing goalies did stop about 43 shots of 47, still .915 which isn't bad but not ".95/.96" like the goalies that carry their teams to upsets, the fact is that no-one has scored on Hermantown in 4 games. Oh, and I think the Hibbing goalies had help by the pipes on at least 3 occasions. One flurry and great effort by Adam Johnson with maybe 6 min left in the 3rd and a stop by the Hermantown goalie got the Hermantown bench excited, you could tell they wanted the shutout.

Remember, you can't pull an upset if you don't score.

I'm excited to see who comes out of this section! I think the SCC Rogers semi final will be a great game. The finals schould be even better and whoever wins it will have a good shot at the state title.

Bottom line is that it was a great accomplishment... Congrats!

Truly an awesome record! As much of all of us miss you in section 7. We have some quality teams to compete with too, don't let the earlier scores fool you. But truly good luck, Always like the wish the few northern teams left in the state the best and have a perfect record is a nice little boost to get you playoffs started.

Hermantown hasn't allowed a goal in 4 games...they are allowing less goals than when they played either SCC or Rogers. I'd take the under on 2 GA in all of sections

Hermantown's defense is their strength. You can't tell how good their goally is since he never has many tough shots. If anyone has a chance taking Hermantown down, it will have to be a team with speed. Cathedral has the most speed in sections.

Hermantown has defense, SCC has the most speed. I have seen SCC play 3 times this season and Hermantown twice. I don't think Rogers can beat Hermantown but it will be a dog fight for Cathedral to get past Rogers. The thing I have noticed is when Cathedral starts applying pressure, it is a heavy barrage on the net and they will often have 3 goal bursts in 5 minutes. I want an SCC/H-town rematch because I think it will be the best class A final game available.

Great regular season for the Hawks, now is the time when it matters though. Would rather be 0-25 and 6-0 in the playoffs then 25-0 and have one loss in the playoffs.

Hermantown went undefeated 29-0-2 to a state title in 2007. Warroad did it 27-0-2 in 2005. Redwing 28-0-0 in 1997. Bloomington Jefferson 28-0 in 1993. Hill Murray 28-0 in 1983. Edina East 24-0 in 1974. Minneapolis SW 24-0-1 in 1970. I Falls 26-0 in both 1965 and 1966. Roseau 30-0 in 1959. Thief River Falls 20-0 in 1954. Eveleth from 1948-1951 went undefeated to a state title all 4 years. Only played 69 games in all 4 years though. Eveleth also did it in 1945 going 11-0.

2005. T.J. Oshie's senior year. They also had Kyle Hardwick, Eric Olimb, and Aaron Marvin. All four went on to captain their college teams.

2007 Holy Angels was undefeated until their section final. I think that's the only team with an undefeated regular season to miss State in the past 15 years or so, but I'm guessing there are more if we go further back.

Come to think of it, there is one private school team that should be on the list, Karl and HSHW.

1983 HM team. Went 28-0 State Champion, Section 3 Champion and St. Paul City Conference Champion

I have watched them a few times this year as well and have noticed a big factor that is going to help them go to the end. They have fixed the penalty bug that they had early on in the season. I haven't really kept track of it but it seems like they are not getting those dumb, behind the play penalties that they were picking up early on. The fact that they have slowed down on those penalties is really going to help out.

It is going to be fun to watch them play either SCC or Rogers when they get there to see how the team speed of either Rogers or SCC works when stacked up against the solid D play of Hermantown. Can Rogers/SCC's speed get away from Hermantown's D? Can the D shut down the speed and keep it to the outside for bad angle shots with no rebound chances? This battle will be won or lost on Hermantown's blue line, and it is going to be a good one.
