Tryouts for the 23rd Annual 2012 BRICK Invitational Super Novice Hockey Tournament (Edmonton, AB) will be held at Breck Ice Arena from 9:15 - 10:45 AM on Saturday, April 14th.

The BRICK tourney is the most prestigious tournament for 10 year olds in North America. This year's tourney will feature 8 teams from Canada and 6 from the US. Last year's championship game featured a quadruple O.T. 2-1 win by the Tornton Bulldogs over the Saskatechwan Pats.

This is an open tryout for elite players born in 2002. Any player who makes the roster can expect to skate 25 out of 30 days in the month of June leading up to the tourney. The team will depart on June 30th and return home on July 9th.

Yes, any Machine player is allowed and encouraged to try out. This year's team is going as Team Minnesota. Ideally, the make up of the team would consist of the best players from Minnesota regardless of AAA affiliation.

Unfortunately, I don't think anything has changed from last year regarding the Machine player participation.

That's too bad.

How many kids will potentially be on the ice for this tryout? How many spots are available? Are goalies encouraged to try out? Is it the Blades' team's spots to lose? Will those kids be out there as well?

Why would you need permission for an open tryout?

A little history for the non psychotic folks on the board. One of the reasons this year's Brick team is going as Team Minnesota is to make it easier for Machine kids to try out and potentially make the squad. In the past, Mr. McBain has told his Machine families he will cut them if they try out for The Brick team and god forbid make the team. Frankly this is ridiculous. The Brick tourney is the best 10 year old tournament in North America and it isn't close. If Mr. McBain truly cares about the development of his players, he would not threaten to cut them because they want to participate in the tryout process and possibly make the team. It is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and if your son is one of the best 2002's in the state of Minnesota then he should have the opportunity to play at The Brick regardless of AAA affiliation. Mr. McBain runs a business and I get that but he should release his top 2002's if they are truly the best in the state.

The Brick roster is totally separate from The Blades roster. The Blades' organization has the exclusive right to participate in the tourney but to make it easier for Machine kids to participate, the team is going as Team Minnesota this year. Hope to see some Machine kids there. It would be a great thing for Minnesota hockey.

There won't be any orange at the try out is my guess they will be traveling a lot this summer already Chicago,Winnipeg ,Toronto ,and Vegas

It's amazing how much butthurt there is out there between Machine parents and Blades parents. You all seemingly have very talented boys that are healthy and like playing hockey. Who cares what team they are on.

And good luck to Team Minnesota. No way my son is even close to being talented enough but I might go to the tryout just to see how good some of these players actually are. Sounds like some kids, even at this age, are pretty remarkable.

Don't some of the canadian teams play full season together? I am pretty sure the Toronto teams do. I think Manitoba takes the top kids and put them together for just the Brick and maybe one other tournament.

Who is coaching Team Minnesota? Maybe the Orange horde would feel better about letting the kids that play for them tryout, if the Brick coaches are different from the Blades coaching staff.

Does anyone know who is coaching the 02 Orange this year?
