BSM vs. Maple Grove

Just finished watching the game on Hockey Hub. Anyone else notice how undisciplined BSM got in the last fifteen seconds or so in front of the net? Two occasions (one after the goal got called off and one right after the game) did a group of four or five swarm the ref and start yelling at him. I don't know about everyone else, but after watching the end of the BSM/Burnsville game and the end of this game tonight, it looks as if they are having a hard time keeping their emotions in check, therefore costing them big games.

Any other thoughts?

Yeah, that was pretty aggressive the way they charged at the ref like that-twice. It sure looked like the ref got bumped, hard to believe there was no penalty.

I noticed that too. I haven't seen BSM before tonight but I thought it was a pretty aggressive response. Without replay it's hard to know exactly what happened, but the fans behind the goal didn't seem all that worked up about the calls. I thought I saw the official get bumped the first time too.

Hound- their other loss to Burnsville finished with an ejection and multiple classless penalties as well.

I agree with both of you- I saw the ref get bumped. It's just not acceptable, especially coming from a team of their caliber.

I watched on myfoxhockey; it was a great barnburner. BSM established themselves pretty well in the first, but when MG got rolling in the second, they had no answer. Time and time again MG floated a forward, and time and time again they got their breakaway. BSM slowly got it back together towards the end and made it a great finish.

MG is a very nice, balanced team. They play well as a unit, the goaltending was sound, and Gross had his flashes. However, they will have to find a different way to score if they go up against another top team that plays sound defense. But they certainly deserve the #3 ranking in the state right now.

Most of the critiques I had of BSM after the Burnsville game hold. The defense got scorched, offense almost exclusively off the rush, and they were slow to respond to adversity. But despite all that, they still very nearly tied this game at the end. The PP was sharp, and I honestly could not tell what happened on that scrum in front of the net with 9 seconds to go. And while I understand that they were in the heat of the moment, the BSM players need to be careful about how they react when the referees wave off goals.

Thanks to both teams for an entertaining game--I'm sure we'll be hearing from them both plenty as the season goes on.

Yea there's no doubt they lost there composure. Bad thing is it may come back to haunt them the next time they have these refs...

Yes the BSM players did get worked up but they didn't bump the ref. I was standing right behind the net, both of the calls in the last 9 seconds were terrible. There is no way the ref should have blown the whistle and the goal should have counted. The the end the MG player had the puck covered under his hand in the crease and that's why they were so upset. With that being said BSM should beat MG but they have periods of major breakdown in there defensive balance. They play so aggressive on offensive that they get caught deep way to much. Quale played the 3rd and his ability to play the puck makes such a huge difference. They wil get it together by end of the year andhave as good a chance as anyone to win state. Once they play their systems another 3 weeks you will see what they can do. Good win by MG took advantage of all their scoring chances.

Was in the other room when it happened, but what happened with the other called off goal? From what I remember the refs thought the goalie had it covered so they called it off but he didn't...but the announcers said "good no goal"

It was a close call the puck was laying in the crease goalie reached out cover and at the same time ashis glove touches the puck Besse shot it in. He did not sweep the glove in he shot the puck. It was a quick whistle.

minnscout, not sure if my eyes were deceiving me or not, but from my vantage point at the other blue line it looked like the MG goalie somehow made a glove save while lying on his back, in the wild goalmouth scramble at the very end. It looked like the BSM player was going to shoot it right into a pretty wide open net, with the MG goalie down, but somehow he got his glove on it?

The glove save on the open net was with 4. Minutes left in the game

OK thanks, it was a wild finish and there were any number of great chances and close calls that could have changed the outcome of the game. I guess as a fan that's why I like high school hockey so much - just glad I'm not a coach!

Yes I watched the game on MYFOXHOCKEY and couldn't help feel a little sympothy at the end for BSM. I suppose if the ref really lost sight of the puck he may have had no choice but to blow the whistle. But I can't help but think BSM got shafted there.

I remember in my playing days I had a couple goals taken away because the ref blew the whistle even though the goalie never had possession of the puck. That seems to be what happened on this play.

IMHO, BSM does not now, nor will they later have a chance to get by Minnetonka or Eden Prairie come sections...I'm just sayin.

Agreed. And if Maple Grove were in that section, they also would not get past those clubs. I was not impressed by either team.

Besides East, no other team would get past Tonka or EP.

Tend to agree with you, although there are some who tout Eagan as a threat down the line. Not I.

After watching the Edina-EP game last Saturday, I think both teams have a chance at beating Tonka. It seems as if no matter how good of a year Minnetonka is having, they always end up 1-1 against Edina.

Eagan outshot EP 39-20 in EP's 2-1 victory over the Wildcats. I'd say they would have a "chance" to get by EP. And we'll find out how they match up against the Skippers on 1/3.

The BSM defense was terrible...un disciplined, reckless, and just plain bad.

Gosh I love hearing all this boasting about a team that has beaten who??? Exactly who is their big win against??? WBL, CEC, Lakeville North (which by the way Eagan beat by 10) Besides Wayzata there's not a team rated in the top 20...

Does Randolph only release the Hounds against certain teams???

Let’s hope Olson gets back before you’re first lose. Hate to have any built in excuses.

Since it’s been said (mnmouth) that "Not only is an undefeated season possible, but a place among the all-time great teams is also within reach". Image

Maybe you should wait till they actually play and beat a decent team.

Oh that's right IMO...

It's not gonna matter who they play, Smokey. I have no particular allegiance to the Hounds, but after watching MN HS hockey for 40 years, I stand by what I write.
