Something about last night's Elite league game (I think he had two goals, both nice ones) maybe pushed him over the edge????

Nanne, on the other hand, looked a little slow and lazy. Maybe he's just staying healthy.

in 3 years they will have three Reilly's, 3 Nanne cousins and the coach's kid. I guess not having to recruit will give Don a chance to relax while the rest of the coaching staffs across the country are busy combing the country searching for the best hockey players.

I have heard a lot of talk about a kid named Sam Warning looking solid in camp so far, Marshall looks good, and Ambosz too. Why isnt anyone talking up Travis Boyd? What will the gophers get from him?

I was at Gopher practice yesterday and Sam Warning was on a line with Bjugstad and Matson. So it would appear that they expect some good things from him this year.

Boyd was paired up with some guys that probably won't see much ice time (Jared Larson and Joey Miller) so I am not sure where he'd be on the depth chart when they start playing games.

I believe Ambroz was on a line with Haula and Condon. Probably trying to capitalize on the success Ambroz and Haula had on a line together at Omaha a few seasons ago.

PS - Congrats to Vinni. I'm happy the Gophs got him.

I would think those 4 should make up the 4th line or so. I didnt see those names either.

imo, the only reilly brother i can see playing will be the youngest, mike. the older two just arent big enough and dont have the skill to make up for their lack of size.

I can see your point on Ryan. You could very well be right there. I think you are underestimating Connor. No doubt Mike is the best of the three.

I agree that Mike will be the best of the three, but I think you underestimate the twins on the same line. Ryan is pretty crafty and can get in and out of most situations without getting beat down. They seem to know where one-another is on the ice. Have to wait another year to see. He could still grow...

All the highschool players will need to play at LEAST 1-2 years of Juniors to be competative at the D1 level. Very good players all though and not dissing them in the least.........Not sure Jake G will have the size....? Also another good player.............

Yah, I kinda agree with both points of view. Solid talented players who may end up with 100 games in the NHL or less will be at too much disadvantage going up against Canadians with 1 or 2 years of juniors under their belts. On the other hand, the stand-out pro-bound players who are likely to see 500 games plus in the NHL, like an Erik Rasmussen, David Backes, Eric Johnson etc., these guys have no problem making the jump straight from high school.

I think there's a lot of pressure on dudes like Mario Lucia -- who might seem destined for the NHL due to size and skill at 11th grade, but hasn't really "proven" his pedigree yet -- to get to juniors for all the extra games. But then there are plenty of exceptions too, as the NHL seems to get younger and younger every year with so much early specialization.

I wonder when the high school league will loosen up and add more games? Or maybe the kids are getting plenty in AAA and Elite League.

Which sort of begs a tangential question: Are so many pro and elite level hockey players great because they were multi-sport athletes? Or are they multi-sport athletes because they were great (I mean top 1%) hockey players?

Getting back to the original topic, I'll be very happy to see solid players like Louie Nanne and Vinni Lettieri playing for the U. These kids will undoubtedly respect and want to build on the tradition of the Gopher hockey program. They'll probably both be 4 year players who put in a ton of effort day in and day out. I wouldn't be one bit surprised to see either one of them wear the C for the Gophers some day.
