-.500 team, 5 seed in 7AA. They'll lose at Cloquet in the quarterfinals.

.700 type team. Top four seed.. Have the firepower to surprise in sections...

Bodangles, good luck on that prediction.

To be a .700 team, you need to win/tie 18 regular season games, which would be a 5-game improvement from last season.

With no experience/returning goalie, I'd say a return trip to Cloquet for the 7AA QF's as predicted by rapidsrapids, is more likely to occur than a .700 season. 8)

Lost to Grand rapidsrapids 4-3 last year and rapidsrapids lost a ton to graduation...... Forest Lake was a VERY junior dominated team last year and only lost a couple. We'll have to see how the goalie situation turns out.

It's only a prediction.

Wasnt Grand Rapids pretty young?

I would say the top 3 are set in stone:
1. D. East
2. Elk River/Grand Rapids
3. Elk River/Grand Rapids

Lost a ton to graduation? What are you smoking? Fans in Grand Rapids are expecting a team next year that will not only contend for the 7AA title, but be one of the top 5 teams in the state with a chance to win it all. Unfortunately, East will be one of those other top 5 teams, but it will make for one hell of a section final. GR has a goalie coming in next year that might be the best they've had since Jon Casey (note my correct spelling on Jon, pat myself on the back). Also, 2 years ago GR's Bantam A team went to the state championship. Now, if I can do simple math, I think that team is gonna be mostly varsity players next year. GR will have 3 solid forward lines(featuring scoring threats Avery Peterson, Reid Holum, Nate Mondry, and Nick Koerbitz, to name some), and they'll be solid at D, Jake Bischoff was one of the best defensmen in the state as a sophmore. Another thing, Elk River and Cloquet will both be improved this season. Elk River's sophmore class might be the best in the state, and Cloquet's bantam A's were also at state two years ago.

Right now I would rank the top 5 this way
1. Duluth East should be top ranked team in the state
2. Grand Rapids should be ranked between 3 and 6 to start the season
3. Elk River between 16-20 in the state
4. Cloquet between 18-22 in the state
5. Forest Lake would say they are a top 30 team with potential but I need to see something first

I know that you're a homer and have tunnel vision, but 3-6...

Patrick Moore and his 40 assists and 58 points were huge reason for any of last years success.

Zach Dick? 26 assists..

Christian Pearson?

3 of the top 5 scorers and the two best playmakers.. They might find some kids to fill these roles towards the end of the season. 12-20 maybe?

Yes, they had good players as seniors last year. However, last year was not the year Rapids fans were expecting that kind of season. This upcoming year is the one GR fans have been waiting 4-5 years for. Last season was a nice surprise, we all knew Moore, Dick, and Pearson would be good players, but the younger players played like 3 year varsity starters including freshmen Avery Peterson. People forget Rapids had East 1:30 from not making it to state last year. And 3-6 is not unreasonable by any means. I will not be surprised at all to see East 1 and Rapids 2 in the state polls at some point in the season.

This season reminds me so much of the year Spehar and Locker were seniors and Aaron Miskovich was a junior. I'm just glad Greenway isn't still in 7AA with a goalie to stop 55 of 56 shots and get an epic upset win in the semi-finals. GAH!!!

 I watched my DVD of East beating Rapids in the 95 section final a few days ago, with Spehar scoring the winning goal in the 3rd. More great memories for you I'm sure.

For what it's worth, my extremely tentative preseason rankings have Rapids at #6.

I respect your excitement, just wouldn't write a team off so soon. I see that you went from a sub .500 team to possibly top 30 now. Be sure to remember that FL beat Cloquet 5-2 towards the end of the season and only lost to GR by 1.. Would the possibility of Skoog facing his old teammates be a good thing for Duluth East in sections  ......?

Forest Lake brings back virtually the same team as last year...... but they'll be seniors.

Should be a great year in 7AA!!!

Again, Cloquet's Bantam A's were at state 2 years ago, oh and last time I checked Dave Esse is still their head coach. Cloquet has never relied on a lot of scoring from a lot of players. They play great defense and have just enough scoring in their better years to beat you 2-1 or 3-2.

Should we add last years FL A Bantam(top twenty) team into the equation then since they beat GR 8-2 last winter?

I was just wondering, heard there was a heated competition for the goaltending spot. Is it true that the parents of a certain goaltender were unhappy that a new goalie moved into the area and took issue with the coaching staff? Again, just curious if this was the case? I will not make the first game but I always make a few games every year. Go Rapids!

Is it true that the parents of a certain goaltender were unhappy that a new goalie moved into the area and took issue with the coaching staff? Again, just curious if this was the case? I will not make the first game but I always make a few games every year.
