Congrats to a great kid, from a great family. Always enjoyed watching Joe play in High School and it's great to see him commit to a school in Minnesota. Best of luck!

Great news. Congratulations to Joe. All the Hill-Murray family is proud & happy for him. He spent 3 years in one of the coldest places on earth. This year he got the chance to be Fairbanks # 1 goalie and he took advantage of it. He had a great year leading his team to a championship, much like those 2008 Pioneers.

Is he going in as third goalie as a walk on, or a top 2 with scholarship?

I imagine he and Faragher each get a partial with a chance to battle for the second spot behind Lee.

Ryan Faragher de-committed from SCSU and is heading to Dartmouth:

I believe that that is an old article from 2010. Faragher had originally committed to Dartmouth but decided to go to SCSU when they offered him an athletic scholarshipi earlier this year (Dartmouth does not give athletic scholarships so technically a person can change their mind).
It is possible that Faragher has changed his mind again now that Phillipi is going to SCSU but I'm pretty sure that your article is the old one from 2010. I don't know if he ever formally signed a letter of commitment with SCSU but I know that he gave a verbal.
The NAHL site still shows his as going to SCSU.
2010 - 2011 College Commitments
Ryan Faragher St. Cloud State University (WCHA, D1)

how does the re-alignment of the wcha and the creation of the big 10 and the new "super" league affect scsu?
WCHA

St. Cloud, Bemidji & Mankato all got screwed by their WCHA brothers.
The WCHA will be left with those 3 plus Alaska-Anchorage & Michigan Tech. Northern Michigan will return from the CCHA to make 6. They could add Alaska-Fairbanks & another CCHA school to make 8.
Not a bad conference but there will be extra travel costs, no Final 5 in St. Paul and all the money that brings in.
Plus the Big 10 (Big 10 Network) and the new NCHC (contract with Versus - soon to be called NBC Sports Network) will all be getting way bigger TV money and national TV exposure. It will be even harder for those 3 to recruit against Minnesota, UMD, North Dakota & Wisconsin.

Lucia has expressed strong interest in playing all 4 MN Div I teams annually. Don't know how realistic that would be to schedule, but it could lessen some of the blow.

How hard could it be to schedule? With only five Big Ten opponents, he'll need to fill out the schedule somehow. The other two conferences won't be bursting with teams either.
As far as St. Cloud, etc. getting left behind, the rich get richer. All so that the Big Ten(eleven, twelve) Network has programming for Friday night. No need for programming Saturday night, basketball gets better ratings.
So who will be watching the Golden Rats V. Penn State when Versus has the Flickertails- Denver game?

Do you watch your Pioneers against the likes of Sibley, Simley, etc, or do you go watch a couple of strong SSC or SEC teams play each other?

No, I don't see the Pioneers play Sibley or Simley. Not worth my time or money. For the most part, the only SEC team I'm interested in seeing is White Bear. The SEC may be fairly well balanced, but I don't see it as a great hockey conference. How often have they won a State quarterfinal game?
Obviously Gopher fans will be more likely to watch their team, but the DU and ND are the premier teams in the West, and UMD just won the big prize.
Wisconsin hasn't made much noise in years, Penn State won't be a factor for a while; I just don't think Big Ten hockey will be a huge attraction. I'd prefer the WCHA stay as is. The Final Five is a fun tournament and the new format I think is better.
