I was just wondering if we could provide a list of the history of the men who have called this great tournament year to year

Don't remember names, but definitely remember how well the WCCO crew did with the 'State Tourney' in the 80's and early 90's.

Chris Cuthford I know was in the late 80's, early 90's when it was WCCO.... not sure if that is how you spell it. Back in the mid 80's I think it was Paul Braun, is he now the announcer for the Badgers? Both were great with WCCO.

I immediately thought of Chris Cuthbert. Who knows what his name really is, but he was top drawer talent from Canada brought in to do the weekend.

Someone mentioned Howard Cosell in another thread.
Did he actually call a game or did he just make a cameo between periods visit or something?

It was back in the 70s (or early 80s.) I think he actually went to the booth and did a little "color" work and then was featured between periods. I also heard that he said that this was one of the top 5 tournaments in all of american sports (I don't have any proof of that, just hearsay.)

Cosell was in 1979. Did color for the Championship game. Referred to Edina-East as playing the "Russian" style of hockey. Interviewed Coach Ikola after the game. It was considered a really big deal. He was bombastic and a know-it-all as usual.
