Being televised right now on KBJRDT2 (My9) in the Duluth area. Don't know where it's on elsewhere.

They're having the girls' championship game (Mosinee vs River Falls) first followed by the boys' title game (Wausau West vs Middleton).

Jeff Sauer is doing commentary.

Mitch (or other Sconnie residents), do you know anything about any of these teams?

when I lived in Sturgeon Bay (Door Co. aka "the thumb") I watched some of the Wisconsin state tournament... it was in the late 90s, and maybe it's just me, but I thought it was just awful. I can't remember if it was "big schools" or not (Stevens Point was one of the teams playing) so maybe that had something to do with it.

Middleton is a very solid team. They are led by Skibba (tendered with Springfield NAHL) and Koritzinsky (Team Wisc). They have some other good role players that are borderline NA guys.

Wausau West is also very tough. Offensively they are led by 2 50 pts scorers. But the best player on their team is goaltender Austin Priebe.

This game should be very fun to watch. I would imagine 3-2 middleton for the win.

I'm happy that West brought the title back to central WI! (that's where I grew up) Last year they blew it and I was thinking they would do the same this year. HUGE win over ECM in the semi's. Lots of talented kids on West that deserve a title.

Yes Eau Claire was considered #1 for most of the season and they did lose to New Ulm but lets not forget they also beat Rochester Lourdes. A team like Eau Claire would compete just fine in Minnesota. They are ranked #23 in the nation which would put them in Minnesotas top 20, any top 20 team in MN can COMPETE with any other top 20 team. May not win but they'd compete jsut fine, and with Saxton Soley in net (best tender in WI) he'd give them a chance in every game. Wasua West is also a very able team right there with EC. The top teams in WI are very good and play good hockey, just liek MN, the difference is MN has more depth of quality, there is a big drop off after the top 15 teams or so in WI where there is not that drop off in MN

2. The Washington Generals
3. Andover Girls JV Team
4. The Indonesian National Squad
5. The Kansas City Royals

HEY MAN! The Washington Generals are in a rebuilding year, cut them some slack.

On a side note, I was lucky to be in North Dakota during the North Dakota state tourney, and I noticed that of the girls and boys, the Final Four teams consisted of 3 teams from Fargo or Grand Forks, it was kind of sad. Then I asked a friend from Bismarck about ND Hockey, apparently there is only 20 teams in the state... Thank God I am from Minnesota.

North Dakota HS hockey and their tournament is a joke. There may be 20 teams but only about 5 are worth anything and they are the only 5 I would put up against a MN A team. EGF beat both Grand Forks Central and 2011 ND State Champ Red River. I was at the 8A championship game in TRF last week, that game was better attended than the ND championship and the fans had to travel further. Watching most ND HS teams is like watching a MN Pee Wee B team with one A player on it, one guys does all the work.

I've the opportunity to watch a great deal of both Mn and WI high school hockey. Whereas teams like Eau Claire memorial and Wausau West could compete with teams in the top 15 in Mn, they'd likely have their share of losses instead of going 25-2 in WI. I see Wausau West as a team that might beat a Minnetonka-caliber team once in 4 or 5 games. Once you get past the top 3 or 4 teams, WI would get crushed. A team like WI #7 arquette would lose to a team like Hill-Murray 8-0, and would probably compete well with the likes of Mounds View or Anoka. Another factor is that because WI HS teams are less competitive, a larger # of players take the AAA route. It is likely that a WI HS may have 2-3 kids playing for the MAdison Capitols or the Junior Admirals instead of playing for their HS teams. There are exceptions of course - that Condon kid from Wausau is awesome and a few other players would be all-staters in MN... they're just few and far between, whereas MN is loaded.

No, actually, it is "Wisconsin State Championship", a forum (which you chose to click on) which is the "MN HS Hockey" board which falls under the "HSHockeyForums.Com" site. I would agree that they probably would not be 25-2 if their entire schedule was made up of the top 20+ teams in the state of MN. But would anyone and if they would then my hats off to that team because that is one heck of a team that could run that gauntet of a schedule.

I wonder how Eau Claire might have stacked up if they wouldn't have lost Jake McCabe to the NDTP (I realize there are probably MN teams that have that same wonder). A kid like that can make such a huge difference to a high school team though and they obviously were very good without him.

Green Bay Notre Dame could be very good next year if they don't lose anyone as they only graduate one senior but it sounds like they likely will lose their best player to the USHL or NDTP for his senior year, too bad They had a really good team this year (probably #3 or #4 in WI this year) and they only lose one senior and he was basically a role player and their goaie is a good goalie, it would be fun to see how they did next year if they stay together. I'm guessing that team could play with anyone in MN if they somehow stayed together.

As for allstaters, I'd say most anyone who plays for Team Wisconsin would be a potential allstater in MN. That said WI has two teams ( between U18 and U16) of those kids whereas MN has about 8 or more teams worth of those kids.

Did someone say Wisconsin's top team lost to New Ulm. The team that lost 13-2 to STA in the A tourney? Why are we trying to compare them to an EP or DE.

Although these high schools team in wisconsin sound good, I do not see how you can compare Minnesota HS hockey with Wisonsin HS hockey
