Minnesota Hockey to Host Townhall Meeting

A Townhall meeting is scheduled for March 12 at the RiverCentre, located in St. Paul, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Mr. Elliott, I recognize there is plenty to discuss, including the amount of money Minnesota Hockey has spent on the lawsuit. Are there any rules for the meeting, e.g., time limits for each speaker, topics that will not be addressed because they are the subject of litigation, etc.?
The Townhall meeting is a good idea, provided we all understand the groundrules in advance. Thanks, Mark.
What lawsuit?

Yes, there will be some rbasic ground rules.
I have not seen them.
The law suit will not be discussed.

Elliott-
How about discussing this topic:
The ensuing face-offs after a penalty has been called should occur in the defensive zone of the team that committed the infraction.
Reasoning: With the reduction of minor penalty time from 2:00 minutes to 1:30, the offending team gets a 25% reduction in time to score a goal and no guarantee of where the face-off is at.

That would be a USAH rule change, but this would be the appropriate place to start a discussion.

Elliot,
I'm not sure if this question is best asked of Minnesota Hockey, but possibly you could lend some insight. Is there no limit to the absolute power of the District Director? Hypothetically, if the DD told a parent to hop up and down on one leg while singing the Fighting Sioux fight song, or he'll ban said parent from every arena in the district, may said DD actually do so? If said parent complied with the request of said DD, but at the end of the year, said DD still just didn't like the guy, could this DD have that parent kicked out of the district? If the parent replied that the DD was "a joke", would that be cause for the parent to get kicked out of his association, out of his district, effectively eliminating the opportunity for the children to play hockey? Would that be a good question for a Town Hall forum?

I hope the Dd's do not have that kind of power.
They enforce the rules based on their interpretatin.
They are subject to review.

Hypothetically, if the DD has decided to block the child's advanced 15 nomination, as submitted by the child's coach, what would be the way to expedite the review process?
Hypothetically, if I heard this story at a rink on bush lake road, I would first be shocked, and honestly, a little angry, that someone could be treated this way, but more importantly, to me anyway, I would become a little concerned that I could be treated the same way by my board and DD. Not surprisingly to some, I can be a little outspoken, and some of my constructive criticism may not be taken well. Can that really get my kid black-balled from something he's worked hard for and earned?

IM...Hypothetically, why would this surprise anyone involved with the Advance 15 process? There have been other posters explaining the selection process and it's not only association team rosters but the advanced program as well. The town meeting will become as interesting as elected officials explaining why we need the ObamaCare bill if this hits the floor...IMHO.

To be honest, I haven't followed any of the Advanced threads. I scrolled down a while and didn't have any catch my eye. I was unaware that part of the "selection process" was for the DD to stand as gait keeper and deny admission to the children of people he doesn't like. I'm also missing that in the MH handbook.

As with everything that happens in the hockey world, I am sure there is more to the story than just what you were told.

Try pg. 3 locked "Advance 15 program" and just below "Bantam A Lets play hockey rankings 12-16-10" ....great reading..right out of the handbook.

TT2, There were a couple other folks in the lobby that had run-ins with the DD - associations with an escape attempt, a law suit regarding 10U hockey of all things, a petition to have a guy relieved of his regular coaching job. You could be right; that seems like a lot to be true.
Kidder, I read the thread between you and Bo about Elk River kids seemingly being overlooked. This sounded different than that. These guys weren't smart enough to simply not pick him for the district team. It didn't sound like they're going to let him even touch the ice.
It still doesn't seem very fair to me. If we're all really in this for the kids, then who's job is it to step up as an advocate for this one, and others like him, against the bozo's - oops, that's a typo, I meant boys - that are "in charge".

I can't decide which disgusts me more 1) being the naive hayseed that doesn't understand big city politics, or 2) a fifteen year-old boy getting slapped around by some power-hungry yutz.

I will take a stab in the dark and guess one of two things are going on:
1) This is a BB1 player from an association with an A team (and if so, we know he got underservedly left off) and thus did not get an invite (maybe it was the B1 coach that did in fact submit his name?). Nor will.
or
2) This player is from an A team and the coach either did not think he qualified or the DD gave each team a fixed number of nominees (due to room) and the Coach did not put him in top number of allow nominees and blamed the DD as he would of taken him had he been able to send more.
Just guessing.

This is probably true for the checking or no checking at peewee level. Will some clarification come out of the town hall meeting?

I was going to just let this go, but my friend hocmom has made me realize that I am the Oliver Stone of youth hockey. Nobody on a board at the association or district level has an alternative agenda.
Bronc, bantam A coach sent his name to the district, the district won't let the kid skate. Based on the margin of victory against that district's offering in the regional tournament, if a kid can skate from blueline to blueline without falling down, he's got a shot.

I think this would be a great topic to discuss during the town gathering on March 12th. Elliott does this have relevance towards the group meeting and discussion? Maybe it would be good to have Hocmom as a guest speaker (coming from extensive community experience) to inspire new board participation at the youth level as well...obviously a key motivator towards association progress. Win-win for everyone...

A reminder for all who will attend. It might be a good idea to be as civil, I would hope Mn Hockey hosts more of the town hall style meeting open to all. I also hope the questions get answered.

Wasn't this meeting on Saturday the 12th? Typical D10 leadership
