Why would you have a shootout in districts let alone end someones season on a shootout. By the time a shootout starts and ends, all the jigamaroll, a 4 on 4 or a 3 on 3 would end it. Come on man!!!!!!

I totally agree. A shootout in district playoffs! That is a cop out way to end ones season. Come on D6, you're better than that!

Another shootout in D6 14UA... Edina White defeated (and eliminated) Stillwater 3-2.

The D6 playoff rules (updated for this year, I believe) includes two overtimes (5x5, 4x4) followed by shootout, as follows:
19. OPERATING RULES FOR DOUBLE-ELIMINATION PLAYOFF FORMAT

19.1 In the event of a tie score at the end of regulation play, following a one (1) minute rest period, sudden death overtime play shall ensue for a five (5) minute stop time period. The first team to score a goal in the overtime period shall be the winner. If neither team has scored during the five minute overtime period, the two teams shall be allowed a one (1) minute rest period. The second five (5) minute stop time sudden death overtime period shall follow with both teams skating one (1) person short (4 on 4). If neither team has scored during the 2nd five minute overtime the two teams will proceed to a shootout. Each team will provide 5 players to participate in the shootout. If neither team wins during the shootout, a second round will take place and the team will utilize 5 different players. The shootout will continue utilizing 5 players per round until there is a winner. Each team must use all players on their roster before a player may attempt a second shot.

Toughest 14UA district in the state and shootouts are determining who advances, just doesn't make common sense and don't give me the injury angle. Oh well at least the D6 reps can make sure they get home early. Does anybody know if other districts do shootouts? This isn't just another tournament, let them play and win or lose the right way, I'm sure the players on both teams were playing their hearts out and for it to come down to shooters and goalies is just not right.

I do know that Apple Valley lost to REV 1-0 in 10 (!!!) overtimes in a game that started on one day and finished on the next (after midnight) in the D8 tournament play-in game. So, D8 doesn't appear to do shootouts.

Yet another shootout in the D6 14UA tournament: Eden Prairie defeated Edina Green 2-1. The shootout featured a total of 50 skaters (25 on each side). (Edina Green will now play the winner of Highland/Edina White tomorrow night.)

Update: Edina White defeated Highland 4 to 0.

Two points:
1. By the time they got through 50 shooters they could've played another 10 minute OT!
2. How about the goalies having to face 25 shooters in a shootout format! 25 times, 25 shots, now that's tiring for the goalies.
Hardly seems like a fair process for such a highly competitive league, weather it's girls hockey or boys youth hockey.

Actually, they could have played several overtimes. The shootout added about 45 minutes to the game.
