Powerhouse? Hard to say that a Single A school with a below average schedule is a powerhouse.

Thats why he said that they were a powerhouse in Class A. They have played 4 A teams in the top 20 so far and are 4-0 so one would say that they are one of the better teams in Class A.

Rapids 5-3 over the Hawks. Should be a nail biter of a 3rd period.

Hermantown 5 - 1, in their rink. No details. If Rapids was thinking ahead to Thursdays match-up with East, they were underestimating a very good Hermantown team. :? Guess they found out the hard way.

realdeal

either HTOWN is the real deal and is a power house or Rapids very overrated.

Rapids played their back up goalie.
Game was tied 1 to 1 after one period.
Hermantown took a 4 to 1 lead after two. And added one more in the third.
Garret Skribich had four goals. Jared Thomas got hurt in the second, missed a few shifts and tried skating the rest of the game but was definetely bothered.
Shots were basically even.

HTown out played them with or without the backup goalie for Rapids. Rapids had their chances to score and couldn't finish the job. Several "whiffs" on shots that might or might not have scored, a few times them had a scrum in front of the net or had the goalie down on the ice or out of position and could not pull the trigger or did and missed. All in all it was a very good game, fast, enough hitting to throw some of the speedsters off their game a little bit and etc. I think that even if Rapids would have had their regular goalie in they were in trouble in that game and would have still gotten beat. HTown came out, put the screws to them, and never let up, ever. I have seen Hill Murry and BSM play this year and am pretty sure that HTown can beat them too. Anybody that over looks this Hermantown team and/or who does not give them credit for being a very very good team who can and will beat anybody on any given day is crazy and due for a nasty wake-up call when they meet up with them.

You often learn more from the losses than a win. Key for GR now, is how much did they take away last night.

Good job to HT on the win.

Totally correct. Total butt whipping by Hermantown over Grand Rapids. Might be two teams heading in opposite directions here.

Grand Rapids was far more inconsistent the two years they went to state and I think this team has better depth. Sometimes it just isn't your day, but this team should still be very confident heading into Thursday night. Remember too that East routed Rapids 5-1 in the regular season and Rapids beat them in the semifinals in 2006-07. Glad Hermantown is having a good year. I hope they keep it up and represent the Northland well at state.

I would have thought the score would have been the other way around. Congrats to Hermantown. Still alot of hockey to play.

Gotta like open enrollment.

hermantown has EP later in there schedule, so if they go without a loss until then, that game will provide more insight into whether they are legit or not or how they would stack up against some of the AA teams

In 2007 we could brag that everyone on that State Championship team (except Hardy, the goaltender, whose family moved into the district) came up through the Hermantown youth program. Can't say that anymore. In fact, even in the youth program I bet it is 30-40% open enrolled kids now.

Yeah good point. However I'm sure anybody familiar with the surrounding area knows that Hermantown is one of the best schools in the northern half of the state when you add up athletics, academics, and what not. I don't blame the parents for wanting to bring their kids to the best school around. I'm sure there are plenty of kids playing for Hermantown living in the school districts of Proctor, Central, Albrook, Esko... etc.....

30-40% open enrollment in the youth program is a huge exageration. They are not even close to that. For most of the open enrollments, they can be contributed to the mess going on in Duluth. As far as the Varsity program goes, I do not beleive there are any Open Enrolls on either Jv or Varsity. The beauty about the internet is you can go on and say whatever you want. Next time get the facts before you report.
