Should be great tourny. Thank you to Edina for re-doing the pools for Fl[because of district 2/fire BS]

Why the rub with WI Fire and FL? Wasn't FL originally in a different pool?

Overall, I think Edina did a nice job setting up these pools with good match up's between favorites and good teams that could make a run. Coming into the tournament here is what I see....
Pool A
Favorite - Edina
Sleeper - Forest Lake
Pool B
Favorite - OMG
Sleeper- SLP (very good team)
Pool C
Favorite - Woodbury
Sleeper - Roseau
I think Edina and Woodbury are similar teams with not a lot of size but are quick and have great hands and individual skill. OMG is fast, big, and in the couple games I have seen move the puck very well. Should be a good tournament.[/b]

I heard it was because the Roseau Dad's couldn't handle the 7:00am New Year's Day ice time vs. Edina

As noted above District 2 does not allow teams to play independent AAA teams during the association season - includes games, scrimmages and tournaments.
The rule was developed to disable the WI Fire from playing nearby MN teams and protect associations from losing players. No different than the District 6 rule on player participation to prevent players from playing both association and MM hockey during the winter season.

From District 2 2010-11 Rules
3.6 Inter-level Play
3.6.1 In addition to MN Hockey rules (MN Hockey Youth Rules and Regulations Article VII Para. D.)regarding interlevel play (games or scrimmages) between classifications there shall be no interplay (games
or scrimmages) between any Tier I and Tier II District 2 teams. (All District 2 teams are classified as TierII.)
a. For the first offense the Head Coach will be suspended for two (2) games.
b. For the second offense the Head Coach will be suspended for the remainder of the season.
The rule specifically states Tier 1 teams. Since the Fire is not classified as a Tier 1 team there should be no problem. If District 2's intent of this rule is to try to " disable the WI Fire from playing nearby MN teams and protect associations from losing players" Then District 2 should just spell out Tier 1 teams and the WI Fire in their rule!

The FIRE are AAA which is the same as Tier 1. AA teams are the same as Tier II.

Couple of OMG games you have seen...C'mon now - What number is your son? You keep pumping their (OMG) tires.
Also, way to go out on a limb for your 'Sleeper' picks...not sure how you classify any of those teams as 'Sleepers' as they could all easily advance. Closest thing to a sleeper is FL, but they are the 2nd best team in the pool.

Why would you say that? Who said anybody bugged anybody? Maybe some people from "our town" just don't like breaking rules right and left? The kids are playing, and Stillwater was never scheduled to play the Fire. I'd pick Roseau over Woodbury in that pool. First time seeing the WB boy not wearing orange, maybe that'll be enough to lift Woodbury.

Titan...sorry Santa wasn't good to you this year, you're quite cranky. My comment was simply to offer an opinion in narrowing the Edina field of 12 down to what I think are the 6 with a legit shot to win it. Did you happen to see the top of the e-mail where I mentioned the teams that could "make a run". The word "sleeper" flipped your switch.
No affiliation to OMG but I do see quite a few D3 games. Let me know if you think I'm off the mark on the description of Edina, Woodbury or OMG.
Thanks for making me smile today and hope the new year gives you a new outlook.

The FIRE are AAA which is the same as Tier 1. AA teams are the same as Tier II.
Wisc. Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA) did not classify the Fire as a Tier 1 organization. WAHA classified them as an "Unclassified " . The 97 Fire is an "Unclassified" Minor Bantam team. They are not eligible for the Wisc State Tier 1 tournament nor are they eligible to play in the USA Hockey Tier 1 tournament because they are not classified as a Tier 1 team!
You might want to resend your rules and clarifications out to your District teams. 3-4 of them interpret the rules differently than you.

Hahaha; cranky...NO, but nice try. I was simply pointing out your mis-use of the word sleeper. Again, not cranky, just an interesting choice of words. Had you chosen Lakeville S, Rogers and Tonka or Stillwater, I would not have questioned.
Glad you are smiling...hopefully the 5-2 victory over Tonka made your day!

Edina 11-1 over Woodbury in the championship. That's an impressive score for a tourney championship.
